Game's a slideshow
« on: December 22, 2014, 10:51:07 am »
Is anyone else having performance issues or my computer way too ancient? My game lags like hell. It has been this laggy for quite a while now.
FPS stays at 5 or 6 no matter what and 1 second takes 3 seconds.

Sounds like something else is taking up your computer's resources, as that system should have no trouble playing at a solid 60+ fps outside truly massive battles (ie. many more units than 3k threat represents).

That or a recent patch screwed things up.

Well I've been thinking about formating and reinstalling everything including the operating system.
Maybe I should do that.. Before that I need to buy an external hard drive though..

EDIT:
There's 30937 ships in the galaxy of which 2922 is threat. There are also hundreds Hybrids.
I don't think it's the amount of ships that is causing the lag though.

-realtime, -maxmem=4096 and -cpucount=4 launch options don't work with AI War?
Anyway.. setting aiwar.exe's priority to realtime and closing all other processes and services helped. Now 1 second in real time is about 1 second in-game. FPS is still really low but I can live with this.. For now.

I went into curios mode and you might be onto something Kahuna.

On your save I'm getting 20-30 fps and I think thats quite low - I don't recall having game running lower then usual 60 even on quite big battles. I'm not playing on 10/10 tho :D

Same.  I then went through, and cheated, and killed all the hybrids and almost all the units on both sides.  Around 30 Hybrids and roughly 5,000 units on each side was still giving 30 FPS.
Even after I disabled EVERYTHING I could to make it run faster - still 30 FPS.

Well then it's because of my graphics card? CPU usage stays below 20% at all times (when the game is running and not paused in the background).

I do think something is wrong here. I tested your save and also am suffering extremely poor performance on my rig, and it should be able to handle this fine:
I usually play on high profile, but put it down to the lowest for this save. I am able to suck about 20fps out of it and get full game speed. On high profile it averages 5fps and is about half gamespeed.
Is something up with the sound? I usually don't play with warheads or any advanced stuff but some of the EMPs and stuff going off are creating an awful noise in my headphones that could resemble static or something like that. It doesn't sound very nice either way. It could just be the FPS lag causing this but I wouldn't know.

SPECS:
Windows 7 64 bit
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760
AMD FX 8150, @3.6Ghz
8GB ram
I am also running on an SSD

As you can see, not top of the line rig, but definitely mid-high end rig that has no problem playing any of the latest games close to maxed out/high settings.
