Cloaker starship priority
« on: June 09, 2010, 03:42:30 pm »
I've noticed that since the upgrade to the cloaker starship range, it keeps sweeping combat ships into its range. The problem this causes is that the military ships "bump" the civilian ships out of cloak (immediately leading to their death), and i'd rather the civilian ships be cloaked because they can't defend themselves like the combat ships. Basically, i would like the option of prioritizing targets for the cloaker.

Maybe make the priorities based on a control node? "Prioritize Civilian"/"Prioritize Military"?

nah, you should get to choose which ones gets the treatment of cloaking, as you don't need to cloak all the civilian or all the military ships.

I encountered this problem as well trying to keep my MRS cloaked in hostile systems.  The more forgiving range is nice, but I think the cloaking slots should be given out according to range to the starship itself (closest first), so you can control what gets cloaked by how you position things.

you should be able to check off ships one by one of the ones you want to cloak as you won't want to cloak tediously a bunch of fighters would you? i would go for mrs and starships.

That sounds like WAY too much micromanagment.

ok, how many ships do you get to cloak again? 10 or 20. and you get 5 of them. obviously it doesn't have to be specificly that , but you can choose which type of ship, enter the number, and get to 100 ships. then the ships will hover around the cloaker starship as a "squadron". if any of them die (who am i kidding, they will never die. even if you have a enemy lightning turret your ships should be able to destroy it

Also should bind ships to riot starship.

I would much perfer an automatic system for it rather then pesky micro management.

One of the reason I really like AI war is its focus on the big picture rather then the little trivial things, in stark contrast to many other RTS (or tactical games really, strategy is such a misused word) like StarCraft. Not that I mislike StarCraft, but I play AI war for strategy :).

The fact you can micro mange in AI war if you so want to, thats a good thing, it can on occation get you out of a hairy situatuion, at the same time as it caters to those who like microing everything to gain even more efficieny. I like making a blob of units and crush my oposition leaving the targeting to the units tehm selfs, because, what general/admiral of an army/navy really dictates all his troops on a personal level? ;)

I amdigressing a bit, but my point is, I rather much perfer a generalized system for targert selection over a system where you spesific units directly.

Not that i got a huge problem with it as of now, I just place my claoking squad a bit off from the main fleet. But really, i don't use cloaking ships that much anymore either, ever since the changes to k-raiding. ;)

fine, how about you pick the ships you want, get it to a bunch, and bind those ships to the riot or cloak starship you want.

wow, if you don't micro this, you just want "auto choosing ships for extreme bonuses" ? you're choosing a ship that you will make invincible and you don't even bother to choose which one?

If your idea works, usually with cloaks you use it to attack and when attacking you bring your : fleet ships, starships, force field, mobile builder, colony ship, mrs, forcefield. and some others

fleetships should never ever be cloaked unless you have nothing else to cloak or you have things like "setinal frigates" or "starship like fleetship" where you would need to micro

You usually have 2 - 20 starships on a mission so you can auto cloak them.

Force fields no need to cloak

i can only say don't bring mobile builder and colony ships until wormhole is cleared and after that, you can spare the 1 or 2 spots for it but it will autocloak any of them

But what about some of them move away? it's best just to bind them to the cloaker starship and they will just stick to the cloaker starship or riot starship.

ideally,

cloaker starships would cloak civilian assets in order of value, then military assests in order of value

shieldboosters would boost assets in order of which has the highest shields (for the greatest net shield benefit)

munitions boosters would boost assets in order of which has the highest attack (for the greatest net attack increase)

but all that would probably be expensive

they all have a range right? so that means cloaking 1 out of the many shield booster munition boosters is enough, cloaking 1 mrs is also enough,
