So maybe that was the ultimate question?

</obscure-reference>

Congratulations :)  Is that 42 hours on the in-game clock, or real time spent playing?

Game clock...
I cannot imagine how much could be the real time because I pause a lot  ;)
Anyway it was a 7.6 - 7 game 60 planets and I went for the full conquer. Very difficult since the opponents were using mostly swallowers and tractor platform (Thief and Bully AI type). Huge use of martyrs against CPA of 15.000 fleets... crazy
At the end I swap to spire alternative victory because things were going too difficult ... and too LONG  ;D
again... GREAT STUFF!
P.S. I think i will not start very soon another game anyway... or maybe...  YES  :P

Wow, 42 game-hours is the highest I remember.  I recall some in the 30's.

Yea, that sounds like a recipe for pain :)

Wow, I'm glad you didn't run into technical issues with that many ships moving around.  Spirecraft Martyrs again prove their place as the Last Word in Emergency Crowd Management Solutions ;)

Ah yes, aggressively pursuing the alternate victory is a sure way to make the game end, one way or another.  Very often games that get into the 30+ game-hour range are abandoned due to the player being pretty permanently distant from both victory and defeat, glad to hear the FS stuff helps avoid that.

I think anyone would need a break after a 42 hour full-conquest game ;)

Heh.  That sounds like my Fallen Spire game from a few weeks ago.  Mine was only 7/7, but it was 60 planets, Spireling/Vanilla, and I was also going for taking as many planets as I could (all of them, if possible).  I only survived 27 in-game hours before screwing up and losing, though, so good job pulling it off in the end.  It gets kind of messy with all those ships running around after a while.  I went through a whooooole lot of Martyrs, too, just to keep them from getting too out of control.

It has been EPIC, and incredibly balanced till the end.
When I had roughly 50 planets I decided to go for alternate victory. You know that after you have built the exogalactic tranceiver you need to hold for 30 min before THEY arrive.
During these 30 min the waves were so powerful ( each waves made by core ships, core starships and at least 4-5 GOLEMS!!) that I had to retreat and concentrate on 3 shockpoints keeping only 28 planets. To keep powered my army and my defense at this stage I had to build 90 additional mark III energy reactors ALL in poor efficiency mode!!

P.S. grav turrets mark3 and martyrs save the day.

I hope not 90 mark 3 reactors on one planet, considering each one produces 80% less than the previous one...

This. My long games usually don't last more than 10.

My short games don't last less than 10...

Hmm, a guy with an Italian name who named his planets after women and is trying to conquer them all?  Sounds suspiciously like what my Italian mother always tried to warn my sister of about Italian men.  Heh.

Wow, 42 game-hours is the highest I remember.  I recall some in the 30's.

Actually Kalzarius and his friend had a game that lasted into the 60s of hours on the game clock; and it was running at half-speed or less for most of that time because they were playing on older, less efficient versions of the game on a 1.6Ghz dual core host.  So their actual realtime for the game they estimated to be in the 200 hour range.

And the reason I believe that estimate is that they played for about two days every week or so, and they played from August 2009 until sometime in mid 2010 on a single save, conquering every planet in a 100 or 120 planet map.  Since Kalzarius was also a prolific bug reporter, I have a large number of his savegames from that campaign at various points in time, heh.

All of that's not to take anything away from fiorenzospa's achievement.  That's absolutely incredible, and still a ton of firsts here, too. :)

Not in this company, I wouldn't think.  With the public at large, sure, but not here. :)

I'm currently 4 hours into a 60 planet map with two level 7 AI and I only hold 5 planets... I have been away for 18 months so I guess this one could take some time too!

I have excess crystal and metal but a lack of research at present, another two planets for just 1 tier of ship seems steep so I took out two data centres to curb the AI aggression allowing me to take another couple of planets... or at least that's the plan!
