3 Hour Limit on Non-Exp Games
« on: December 30, 2009, 01:28:57 pm »
Either you're checking the wrong thing, or the check-box is highly unintuitive :P.

There are two ways that I know of to be running the new prerelease, and not the Zenith Remnant, and one of them doesn't work. If you have the option for using the Zenith Remnant in the main menu checked, then host a game, then uncheck the Zenith Remnant expansion box in the options menu (in the pre-game settings), it will still think you're using the Zenith Remnant, and cut you off at the 3 hour trail limit.

I dunno if it'll work, but attached is a savegame that I used to test it. If it doesn't work as expected, this can be replicated (in under 3 hours :P) by starting a new game with the Zenith Remnant turned on, getting to the pre-game settings, unchecking the Zenith Remnant option, then cranking the speed up to +10. I'd recommend Turtle type AI :P.

I was always confused by why this is done the way it is--with regards to the lobby-disable option...
I'd take a sea worm any time over a hundred emotionless spinning carriers.

I believe it's for a situation like:
Player A and B have The Zenith Remnant, but player C has yet to buy it. Because of this, the host can un-check The Zenith Remnant option, causing players A and B to not use it, causing the game to be played without The Zenith Remnant (i.e. at player C's level).

It's just broken :P.

Actually, this is the way that it is supposed to be working.  If you don't have the expansion, and the expansion is turned on in the settings window, then you are in trial mode no matter what you select in an individual game.  You see TRIAL up in the upper left corner, and when you join a game it shows TRIAL next to your name, etc.

The deselection of the expansion in the lobby is only for if you have the expansion, but simply don't want to play with it for some reason, such as when you are playing with someone else who doesn't have it.

The game itself has to be in either Trial mode or not, globally, and that's set at startup based on your options selected in the overall settings menu (expansion on but without license key, or no license key entered for the game as a whole).  The lobby itself doesn't affect trial mode one way or another, as you're already in trial mode or not.

Oh... Interesting. I suppose it won't matter in a month, it's just a bit misleading right now :-X.

Oh well, I can live with restarting AI War a few times for a month :P.
