24 minutes in, attacked by 100 Core Bombers?
« on: February 16, 2010, 09:06:52 am »
Note this is after we got hit by a wave of 700 in the first 10-15 minutes or so. We survived that, barely, then I instantly lost my homeworld to a raid by about 100 Core Bombers. What gives?

Playing Zenith, 3.0.3.8, Moderate AI on 7.3 difficulty

The core bombers thing is a bug relating to the Devourer golem freeing ships, the upcoming 3.039 will hopefully fix the last two ways that the Devourer could cause this issue.

The wave of 700 ships after 10-15 minutes is quite extreme and unrelated, though.  I'm curious if you used some cheats to get some special ships, or how many players are in the game, or if you're using a multi-planet or some AI modifiers that might cause it to be that high.  I guess if you're playing against one of the raider-style AIs, it is also feasible that is just that AI type.  I highly doubt there is anything wrong with this one, but there are a wide variety of possible causes for it.

That wave of 700 is from the mad bomber, then.  Those guys have almost no defenses, but their waves are huge.  The thing with the core bombers is a bug, though.

We just got whacked by 170 Mark III ships about 12 minutes into the game - Random Moderate, 7.3, Assassin and Speed Racer - and the ships were from the Speed Racer. Both of our command posts were destroyed pretty much instantly.

I thought Mark III ships weren't supposed to attack until much later?

This is the very same bug you already reported... 3.039 is not out yet, that is where the fix is.

Ah.  Then, definitely must be something else.  Could be something like an alarm post, if you set one of those off without knowing it.  Or could be some other unrelated bug -- did you have any minor factions on?

No alarm post, we didn't even have time to do much more than begin our first attacks on nearby systems (I was explaining the game beginning to a friend playing for the first time)

All other minor AI factions were on

lol. That reminds me of when I used to work in IT.

Field associate: "Hey, my user account on my work laptop says I need to change my password, but I can't do that because I'm not connected to the network at the office. Can you fix that?"
Me: "Sure, I'll change the server settings to not require you to change it, but you'll have to bring it down to the office and briefly connect to the network so it will propagate the change."
*the next week*
Field associate: "Hey, you said you fixed it, but now I'm locked out of my laptop. What gives?"
Me: "Did you ever bring it to the office to receive the updated protocol?"
Field associate: "...."
Time to roll out another ball of death.

Most likely it has something to do with one of the minor factions, in that case.  The devourer fix is actually a more generalized fix for all the minor faction ships, although the devourer was the only one we knew for certain was causing it.  3.039 will be out in the next couple of hours, hopefully that will be the end of that.
