Trial period
« on: November 01, 2010, 08:43:37 pm »
So I bought my game from steam and put in the activation code and started a campaign on my own 40 planets AI at 6 etc. I was playing on and off for the past 2 days and just now i got a message saying trial period is over and my game is non responsive. I cant order any units or buildings but can see the AI moving as it would normally. There is a message saying waiting for player to join but I'm the only player that can join.
Whats wrong and how can I get past this trial period problem.

Welcome to the forums :)

First, try closing the game entirely, starting it again, and loading your game.  Sometimes the keys don't fully "take" until you've restarted.  We're going to try to fix that.

If that doesn't work:

Go to the main menu, click on "License / Expansions", are any of the expansions checked that you haven't entered a key for?  If so you may have started a game with an expansion you don't actually own yet, which makes that particular game trial-mode for someone who doesn't have those expansions.  If you uncheck the ones you don't have and start a new game, it won't be a trial-version.

We really need to make it more obvious in the lobby when the campaign is going to be a trial campaign, too.

I have restarted the game. Both expantions are disabled and the message at the top left of the start screen does not say that this is a tial game. When I try to start a new campaign however, it says trial game next to my name. It says limit 3 hours but my last game was more than 5 hours long (got the 5 hour steam ashievement) before it was stopped.

Hmm, that's really odd that it was still showing trial -- would have liked to have searched that out more with you, I'm not sure what was going on there.  But, we do appreciate your patronage with the TZR expansion, not that we were trying to force you into it!

Hi, not sure if this is a similar problem but I just purchased the Light of the Spire expansion (eager indeed!) and went to start a new campaign.  Besides my name it says that I am on a trial and limited to 3 hours.

I have all of the expansions, and all the keys are inserted and have been accepted.

Thanks.

Many thanks for your support!  Probably it is a bug where you need to close and reopen the game for it to stop being trial -- I'm not sure why it does that for some people, it's something we're trying to hunt down.

Thanks for that.  It worked.  Just to let you know, I ran it through steam, and after closing and re-opening Steam informed me it had updated both CoN and TZR.  Not sure if that is related.

Humm, that is odd.  Probably not related, but good to know.  Thanks!
