Two computers on same LAN cannot connect!
« on: October 31, 2010, 11:05:03 am »
Hey, just got this game but we can't play!

In our LAN there are two computers with IP 10.0.0.7 and 10.0.0.8. If the .7 computer creates a game the .8 can automatically see the game in the list but just times out when trying to connect to the server (nothing happens). If the .8 computer creates a game the .7 computer cannot automatically see it nor connect. Direct connect doesn't work either.

Both computers run Win 7 64 bit, and the "ping" command works fine both ways. Windows firewall is configured for the game on both computers. We haven't changed any ingame settings regarding listening port etc.

We want to play, so please help! Thanks.

have you tried just blanket turning off both firewalls?

In addition to firewalls, I'd also recommend disabling antivirus software. Those can sometimes block the game. My guess is that the problem is on 10.0.0.8's side, since information about the game seems to be getting out of 10.0.0.7 just fine.

Once you find the blocking software, of course, you can try re-enabling it with exclusions for the game. But it sounds like that's what is going on.

Thanks for the replies. Actually, we installed Hamachi and now we can get it to work:) Such a shame that we get overwhelmed too easily...

Make sure you play through the tutorials so you know how to play -- it can be really easy to make some critical mistakes and get rolled if you play on a high difficulty without doing that.  But, don't worry, there's a difficulty for every occasion, so you can make it much easier to start if you prefer.

Glad the network is working!

Just a quick note to anybody who may have trouble.  Me and my brother were trying to connect the other day, and Tunngle nor Hamachi were working.  However, once we set our UDP Network Port to be exactly the same, we instantly found each other.  Hope this helps somebody!

My brother and I are having a similar issue, and can't seem to solve the problem.

Playing on 5.001 base game.
Configured firewalls, and same port number.
Yet when we try and connect to the others game it never progresses on the 'Transferring data for full game sync.'

Help?

If you're getting to the "transferring..." part, then you're connected just fine, and it's sending the data that is having some trouble.

First thing I'd do is make sure that you both have up to date network drivers.  Beyond that, this thread has a lot of good things you can do: http://www.arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,8318.0.html

If that doesn't work, let us know!
