Multiplayer joining
« on: May 06, 2010, 06:10:44 pm »
Hey guys,

is it possible for a third player to join a running game set up for two players, and if yes, how?

Cheers,
KToff

Sure is!  Just use the Manage Players button in the in-game menu once you've loaded up the existing game.  More details here: http://arcengames.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=AI_War_-_Multiplayer#How_To_Manage_Player_Drop-In_and_Drop-Out_In_Co-Op.3F

Thanks a lot, now everyone is joined but the progress is stuck at 99,5% of synchronisation

Is this a known issue?

Not particularly -- though if players were already in and then you do manage players, sometimes it does not work overly well.  Best to load it up, add the extra players, and then have everyone join at once for the best result.

We tried it a couple of times, but we always got stuck at 99.5% (or 99.6 or 99.4) we then just started a new game which worked out great.

As always, thanks for the support

Hmmm -- can you post the save so we can take a look at that?  And, to confirm, there were no players connected/connecting, and then you added a new player slot, then people connected and it did that?

Hey Chris,

I think i deleted the save, sorry, but i'll look that up tonight and post it up if i didn't. I loaded the save, added a player and then two people (one from the save one without home) tried to connect and it stopped at 99.5%. Players were from Germany, US and Korea :-)

First try was a direct joining. When that didn't work, i saved and we tried again. Then we tried once more and it stopped at a slightly different percentage.

For troubleshooting purposes we then tried an all new game and started it with three people which worked just fine. And then we wen't along with it, as the first game only had run some 30 minutes anyway. The lag however, was increased with the third person and i set the command lag to +4 to get a fluid game.

What we did not try (but probably should) is to load the three persons savegame to see if this combination of players can join a savegame at all and that this is not a problem of these three players in general.

Cheers,
KToff

If you run into the problem again, could you try enabling Skip Batch Network Sending in the setting menu? Rev and I had very good luck with that when running into problems with syncing back during a big network testathon we did around version 2.0.

I'll try that next time we run into a similar problem and will let you know how it goes.
