steam purchase ai wars will not work

I keep reinstalling this game and testing to see if it would work but it will not. This game i double click to start up, but then you get an error that says "Ai war: fleet command has stopped working"
windows can check online for a solution to the problem.
you get the two standard options of closing program/check online for solution and close.
Neither does anything really. The details are below.

If it helps any i ran this to the steam support, and then they gave me your support forum as they didn't create the game and it was out of their expertise.  i was wondering if you could tell me why it doesn't work D:.

Hi, sorry to hear about your troubles -- it looks like for whatever reason Steam did not install the prerequisites; or, alternatively, that you already have all the prerequisites, but one of them is corrupt.  My money would be on .NET 2.0 or 3.5 having been on your machine but now being corrupt, if I had to guess.  If you currently have .NET 3.5 installed, you may wish to uninstall that and then try reinstalling it from the prerequisites list here: http://arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,1811.0.html

You can also look in the AI War folder under steam/common and see if there are any error text files in there, but based on what you posted I highly doubt it.  An error like that usually means that the game is not even running.  Before the game can be run, the .NET framework has to JIT compile the code into native code for your machine, and during that process it's finding that some part of .NET itself is missing, so it can't even get to the part of running the game, which normally happens in something like half a second.

If .NET 3.5 SP1 isn't even installed on your machine, then the really super simple fix is simply to install it and you're all good to go.  Do note that if it is already there, doing a repair tends not to work; a full uninstall and then reinstall tends to work when an a native install won't work.

This sort of thing is precisely why we're going to be moving away from .NET in the coming months.  This sort of thing is quite rare, but it's really annoying when a game won't run because of some other prerequisite being hosed on your OS.  Sorry for the trouble, hope this helps!
