Status Window Crash
« on: October 27, 2010, 08:34:09 pm »
Dunno if this has been reported yet or not, but in 4.0, every time I click the status window the came CTDs. Is this just me or is anyone else having this problem?

The stats window?  Do you have an error file from the RuntimeData folder?

There were some errors that could happen in the stats window that I've fixed for the next prerelease which should be coming out shortly.

But you said the "status window", did you mean stats, or something else?

Yes, the Stats window. The Message Log does the same thing. The only error dump I can find in my game folder is one saying I'm missing some localization file. I can't seem to find any dump logs other than that.

I think the prerelease is available through the in-game updater, if you want to try it with that.

That would be a negative. Still CTDs when I try to open the Message Log or the Stats screen. I'm also still not seeing a crash dump, unless they're hiding somewhere I'm not looking.

Can you check in both the game's directory and the RuntimeData subdirectory?

Also, are you running windows or mac?  I know you've been around for quite a while and have obviously run the windows version in the past (at least via emulation), but I want to be sure.

Yeah, it's running in Windows 7 natively (No emulation or anything). I've checked the RuntimeData directories to no avail, and the game directory. All I've been able to find is that error log about missing localization files. Granted it's from last night when I tried updating the game and not now when I had the crash. I've got thing in the way of a current log that I can find.

Thanks for the OS info.

Hmm, a lot of those are from the CoN language file (though not all of them).

As far as finding the logs, if you saw a loca errors one it should be there, or in the same directory tree.  Are your savegames going to the Save/ directory under your game directory?  If not the logs might be near where your saves are.

Odd, I don't even have CoN yet...

And I just went through literally every folder in the Steam apps directory (I am running the Steam version, if that matters) and found abolutely nothing besides game data and that localization error file.

And your saves are somewhere in your steam folder?  Or in C:\Users\.... something?

Hmm, this is just weird, it should have _some_ log of an error if you got a CTD.  Though perhaps the very act of logging caused the CTD.  You see, other folks who've gotten problems with the stats screen (I even got an exception at one point) didn't have it crash because the game logs it and then tries to continue; in the case of the stats screen this is generally doable since it doesn't actually impact the simulation.

For kicks, can you try running the game in admin-privilege mode?  If the log is dying it could be a permissions thing.

Oh durr. I forgot, Win7 is extremely retarded when it comes to programs writing to the Program Files directory (Because you know, they'd NEVER have to do that). Not only did the Stats window open (And the Message Log) but they did actually return errors.
