[Solved] Video stuttering
« on: January 18, 2010, 06:44:53 am »

If you have the problem below, try beta patch 3.0.1.2 (or update the game with the official patch if the patch went out of beta when you're reading this.) It's a small download and it fixed the problem for me!

--------------------

I just purchased and installed the latest versions of AI War and of Zenith expansion and the game starts fine. But when i start the first tutorial, i noticed that the game freezes for about one second every two seconds or so. If i pan around the camera over the map this is very annoying. And even though the mouse-pointer is still active i cant press buttons during this lag but they will become pressed after that second of freezing has gone away.

I have stuttering sound issues with most games but only certain games have stuttering video. The weird thing is that the more 3D intense the game is, the less it stutters. So in a case of AI War which is relatively simple, it stutters a lot.

I'm getting a new computer in while i guess. But this computer didn't always have this problem, so i'm kind of bummed out about that AI War had to be one of those games that have this stuttering.

As a suggestion I would change the Nebula style and Space Background style in the Options menu - set Nebula to Simple and background to Grayscale/simple. That should help out with the stuttering, there are also a few other options in the settings menu that will improve performance a bit - anything in green text should help performance.

Try those out and see if it helps, the good thing is that GFX quality in this game isn't hugely impacted by lowering the settings.

Have you patched to the latest version, if that stuttering happens only in the tutorial then that sounds like a bug that was fixed recently..?

But yes, you will have to crank down the graphic settings, your mobile gpu is 7 gpu generations behind.

Yes -- the latest beta version fixes this specific issue, which was an error with the first 3 tutorials only, and nothing else. Sorry for the confusion!

Thanks for your suggestions. I tried turning down everything and checking all green options to improve performance but it didn't change. This somehow isn't about actual performance per se, but about a very odd sort of video-lag that actually doesn't really seem to have anything to do with the game itself. It's just that this stuttering only happens on this computer WHILE playing certain games.

It's very unfair to blame the game for this, which is why i want to re-assure you that this computer i'm using right now is quite crappy and something's clearly not right with it. I'm just curious to see if someone actually can help me deal with this until i get the money to get something more fresh. ;)

Well, after i installed 3.0.0.0 and entered the license key, it said that there were two updates available on the updates button. So i went in there and one of the updates was a beta update to 3.0.1.2 or something, while another seemed to be the Zenith expansion itself. So, i downloaded Zenith onto this and again everything works fine except when actually inside and playing a game. The menu background and such floats on well as it should.

As i said above, only a few games seem to be affected by this. I play far more demanding games than AI War on this computer without stuttering.

Oh, so in this case you think you guys could fix this via the software? Well i'll get the beta update down right away then and see what turns out!

Thanks!  I intend to put out an official patch for that later in week, once we get other stuff sorted out to be included as fixes/tweaks.
