[Solved] problem using a saved game (Multiplayer)
« on: November 28, 2009, 03:21:49 pm »
So, me and rebus_forever started a multiplayer game without a problem. After 6 or so hours of gameplay, we decided to stop for the night. We saved the game file, and closed the game.

A couple days later, we tried to pick up where we left off. I did have some issues with my connection, but i opened up some ports, hosted a new game (just in the lobby, not started yet) to test the connection, and rebus_forever could join fine. After that, i exited out of the lobby, loaded the save game, and then rebus_forever tried to join.

When he joined, the "waiting for player" thing beside his name changed to (WAIT 1000), counting down to zero, and sat there. He could not enter the game, and no matter what we tried, it wouldn't load or start.

Something that might be a problem is that he has the steam version, and i have the version from this website. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

Hi NeuroFuzzy,

There shouldn't be any compatibility issues caused by acquiring the game from different locations, but thanks for including that information.

Are you playing version 2.0 of the game? One thing you could try is to have the host go to the settings menu and tick the skip network batch sending option.

There's a small chance that your problem could be a result of This issue. If you loaded the save game after the lobby test without restarting the client, could you please try that? Have both players restart the game entirely before attempting to load the campaign.

If the above fail, you could try downloading the latest prerelease to see if this fixes the issue - http://arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,2485.0.html

If there's still no luck, could you please post the save game? Thanks.

Edit: Whoops, Rev already got this one in the above post. I don't really have anything valuable to add, then; sorry.

I wonder if the problem might just be with syncing. Your friend is using Steam, so I assume you're using version 2.0 of the game, which had a few network related issues in it that may be responsible for your problem. I recommend enabling the 'skip batch network send' option in settings and trying again. Let us know if this makes it act any differently.

Sorry about the problems you've been having. Hopefully we can get them sorted out soon.

Sweet! it worked!

I did both things you suggested, but i'm not sure which was the one that fixed it. We weren't particularly interested in troubleshooting as much as playing :P

Thanks revanantus & fiskbit!
