[Solved] how do i register my key?

this sounds really silly, but i can't find where i put the product key in, I have the steam version, and got the demo (from steam) first.

You have no need to do so with the Steam version. Its all handled by Steam

For the base game, or expansion?

For the expansion, please navigate to the options menu, Settings, Expansions tab, click on the name of the expansion, and input your license key.

For the base game, I am unsure, since on first time running it should have a dialog to confirm your license... you could reinstall the game quickly to have this appear again if you are in a hurry.

He said he has the Steam version (actually, on second thought, that rules out the expansion too) which, though it does provide the key on first startup, does not need this key once started, as it is all handled by Steam.



Since you bought the Steam game, just play.

The demo and full game are considered different games on Steam, so if you got the demo, just grab the full version and you'll be fine. Steam supplies you with a license key, but AI War on Steam doesn't actually require it. That key is given to you so you can use it to unlock the non-Steam version of the game. We're firm believers in users being able to actually use the software they paid money for, so you can use the entirely DRM-free version using that Steam AI War key, if you'd like.

Well, I must be very thick because I also can't figure out where to register the expansion. I just bought it but I can't seem to find this options tab. The only settings tab I find is in the main menu or in-game but that takes me to the same settings menu. I checked the files outside the game and couldn't find it either. No mention of expansion tabs that  I have found. Now I have just had several exams and I'm mentally exhausted so I may be staring right at it but if anyone could help a fellow out, I would appreciate it.

You are looking at the correct settings window -- the one off the main menu.  There will be an Expansions tab there, if you have the expansion installed.  If you don't have the expansion beta installed, you can do so from here:  http://arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,2485.0.html

Be sure to check back for beta updates if you are interested, as there are several a week, generally.
