small screen
« on: January 05, 2010, 11:19:51 am »
Hi there me and my bro love ai wars and i like the fact that its low requirement the way it is. So i managed to get it running nicely on my acer aspire one when i notice that the window in game for the menu and map selection are to big for the acers tiny screen. In game the games is sized down to fit it its just the menu windows that are to big. is there anyway to get it to size down along with the game?

Hey there. Netbooks like yours tend to have a screen resolution of 1024x600, while AI War is designed to run at a minimum resolution of 1024x768. It allows players to play at a lower resolution due to requests players made a while back, but menus aren't designed for such small screens and will extend off the edge of the screen. One thing you could try doing is setting your resolution to a 1024x768 and use screen panning to see the remainder of the screen. If your system doesn't currently support that, there should be drivers available that do. If you only need to have access to the remainder of the menus for a short time, you could use this trick to see the rest of the menu, make your changes, close the game, and reduce the resolution. Then you could play as usual at your reduced screen size.

Does this help?

I would simply add that most of the menus are designed such that only fairly less important stuff hangs off the screen on the too-small screen resolutions -- with the lobby, it's just the very top, etc.  In-game, it doesn't have any issues that I'm aware of, it's just the lobby and main menu, and noncritical parts of those, to my knowledge.  Glad you're enjoying the game!
