[Solved] Crash at start up (steam)

Whenever I open the game in steam I automatically crash. "AI War: Fleet Command has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience".

I have reinstalled the game multiple times, even reinstalled steam.

So I am wondering if I will be able to ever play again. I have not tried my other computer yet but i'm sure there is something wrong with my computer.

EDIT: I manually installed 3.0 and it is working again.

I suspect that if you had loaded an old copy from Steam after having used a prerelease, your settings.dat file was not compatible -- would make sense why the 3.0 version was then working.  Glad you got it solved!
