[Solved] After USB trandfer, AI War won't work

One of my computers got an upgrade, but it wasn't the one with AI War on it, so I figured I could just copy the Arcen Games folder and put it on the other computer, then I find out that V3.0 is out so I try to update it, it came up with an error "Invalid command line", then I try to see if the game works, but it didn't. My main problem is that I got the game as a gift and got the CD-Key through a Steam message, but I can't contact that person often, will I need to try to get the CD-Key from the person again and reinstall it (possibly losing all of my saves ), or is there another way that I can use to fix it?

Hi, KillerFrogs. I'm not sure what's up with the "Invalid command line" issue (perhaps Chris knows more and can shed some light on that), but as for the game, if you have it registered on Steam, you can get the license key by right clicking on the game and selecting "View game CD key". If you have the key that way, then all is good and you can go ahead and reinstall without issue. Save files are in the save directory inside the game folder, so you can back those up by going to that folder and making a copy of the save directory elsewhere.

I'm not sure if this will work, but if you don't have your key, perhaps what you could try to do is make a copy of your settings.dat file in your AI War directory, reinstall the game to try to fix whatever is wrong with your current installation, and then put that settings.dat file back in to the folder. When you reinstall, I recommend installing the same version you had before and then updating from there.

I'm not sure about the command line argument error, either -- that doesn't sound like an AI War error, or at least not one I programmed.  Perhaps an issue with the installer, I'm not sure.  My suggestion is to just install 3.0 fresh, ignoring the content from the other computer -- then, copy your settings.dat and your Save folder over into the new installation, and that will get everything back (those two things are the only personal data you'd want to keep from the old install).

IT WORKS  ....but seriously, thank you so much for helping me out with this, and looking at version 3.0 with the zenith expansion it still makes me glad that I got this game, although I'm not nearly able to play as often with my brothers as I used to, but the Snake star system formation might get their attention, and once again thank you for helping.
