Remains Rebuilder BUG
« on: August 05, 2012, 02:03:46 pm »
When you order the construction of a remains rebuilder and shift shift/strg+v in order to get it into autoassist right from the beginning, it will not work.
Basicly, you have to FRD him again once he is constructed. This must be a bug, because it works with stock engineers. Its really really annoying. Please fix.

This does not match what I'm seeing, at least as I understand your issue.

I do not know of a way to build a remains rebuilder in FRD but I will begin construction and then select the rebuilders while under construction and I am able to FRD them even though they are still under construction and they will be in FRD mode once built.

Same here D.

Even on an AI planet, I could pause place and set FRD then let it construct and have the builders be in FRD mode.

Can you try this with "Make Multi-Planet FRD Patrol" in the controls menu off (or if you have it off, turn it on)?

I have encountered behavior like this from normal engineers when this control was turned on.

Sorry, If you dont know how to build in FRD mode, why bother posting on this issue -_-

I will tell you how to construct in FRD.

Select your command station.
Select engineer.
Hold SHIFT CTRL and V and left click.
THe game will build 5 (CTRL) Engineers. When they are constructed, they will FRD immediatly. Because they were ordered construction while holding V.

Do the same with Remains Rebuilder.
They will Idle once constructed, unlik Engineers.
I havent tried Tech's suggestion yet.

Not sure where you got the idea that holding V while building does anything, because I just tried it and it doesn't. You probably just have the engi auto-frd toggle on, but that includes rebuilders. That said, I think from time to time I had problems with rebuilders not being on FRD when I thought they were supposed to be, so maybe there is something going on.

Yeah, V doesn't do anything.

Yeah, that's just Auto-FRD Engineers in the CTRLS menu under Galaxy Settings.  Constructing with V doesn't do anything.

This is not correct.
When i issue a single or a stack of engineers without holding V, they will idle / aid only stuff in range without moving, but they will not roam around the system, unlike holding V while issueing the construction.

Are you talking about building the engineers themselves?  Or when you order the engineers to do something (like assist a Space Dock)?  Giving an engineer orders and holding down V does put them into FRD mode.  As does just holding down V and clicking on empty space.  But when you first place engineers, they should be in normal (non-pink) mode regardless of what you did with the V key.  Although if I recall you might be able to give engineers currently being built orders that put them into FRD mode.

But for most people, just turning on Auto-FRD Engineers is far easier.  Its rare when you don't want them in FRD.

Playstyle.  I almost never put my engineers in FRD.

This is true. And helpful when you have engineers supporting a beachhead.

Heh.

Another for the Non-FRD crowd here.

I would love a per-system setting for this. I want engineers and remains rebuilders in my homeworld to FRD but I don't want them on FRD in my captured systems.

I end up leaving it off and just manually FRDing the engineers in my homworld when I notice they've been destroying and then rebuilt by the "keep X engineers in system" setting.

I'm in the auto-FRD crowd, and I would also like a per-planet override for this. Most of the time, I want auto-FRD, but occasionally, due to strange circumstances, I will want some of my planets not to auto-FRD.
