KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNN!

Disabling CrossFireX resolves the problem.

I need CrossFireX enabled to play other games which are graphics intensive (AI War has never really been intensive on my system), but I can live with it disabled for AIWar. But does this help narrow the bug possibilities down?
It may narrow it down to "please ask your graphics card to not break itself in order to play our game" :)  But Chris may have a better idea what's going on there, when he gets back next week.

Does disabling CrossfireX completely resolve it, as in it's the same (or pretty close, I wouldn't expect it to be identical) as it was in 5.000?

Many thanks for the thorough investigation and followup :)

Ah, yes, by "narrow the bug down" I didn't mean it was necessarily on your side of the fence. :) AI War is not the first game of mine to not get along with crossfire. I should probably think of this earlier in the debugging process next time!

With crossfire disabled, I can't tell a qualitative difference between 5.000 with crossfire and 5.046 without. I doubt I really need both graphics cards to run AI War anyway right?

I guess the bottom line is it would be handy if I didn't have to flip the CrossFireX setting in between games, but I can play AI War again woo hoooooo!! So I'm a happy camper. :)

Jesus that planet in the background...... lets hope stuff like that is fixed in the next patch.

EDIT: I was talking about 5.046 patch which I just downloaded and the problem is still there. Will have to temporarily disabled planets.
PS that slider thing is awesome. Good job with that.

I can't see why you would need two GPUs for AI War. I have one crappy one and it works fine. :) This game is a lot more CPU intensive.
