How to use steam when game already dowloaded?
« on: December 14, 2010, 11:37:37 am »
I dowloaded the game from gamershell I think. However I realized I wanted to use steam with it. However I fail to register it at steam. I can dowload the game from steam without rebuying it but then I have to install all expansion and everything again....so is there an easy way to put the game on steam?

Actually, yes -- you can use Add Non-Steam Game to My Library to launch the game from there with the Steam Overlay active.  It won't have achievements and such in Steam, but the overlay would work.  If you want full steam integration (leaderboards and achievements with them, etc), the only way to get that is downloading it through Steam, though.

In theory if you remove the one you installed through Steam (If any), copy the AI War folder from your Gamers Gate install into your C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common folder and then try to install it through Steam, it should recognize the files, install one or two random cache files and what not, and then integrate itself with Steam. I've done this before with large games (Like Left 4 Dead) when I didn't feel like re downloading on another machine.

I'm pretty sure you can tell Steam where to install games.

Yeah well it would be pretty stupid if you couldn't. I should check it up once more.

Yeah well, whatever directory your steamapps folder is in, put AI War there, lol
