Missing executable
« on: November 15, 2012, 07:27:11 pm »
Hi. I'm not sure if this has been brought up before, but for some reason when I try downloading AI war on steam, it only downloads a folder called "RuntimeData". I get a "Failed to start game (missing executable)" error when I try starting it up.

I'm running OSX Lion 10.7.5 with the beta version of steam

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forums :)

That's definitely a problem with the download, please try this:

1) In steam, click on Library
2) On the library's left column, right click "AI War: Fleet Command"
3) On the context menu that pops up, click the "Properties" option
4) On the window that pops up, click the "Local Files" tab
5) On that tab, click the "Verify Integrity of Game Cache..." button

It should detect which files are missing and download them again.

Alternatively, if that's really hosed for some reason, you can download the mac version from here: http://www.arcengames.com/w/index.php/aiwar-downloads

And use the keys that steam gave you to activate that install.

Let me know how it goes :)

To add a wee bit more, as many people found out during the Ancient Shadows beta, if you install onto the steam directory for the game (or the Mac equivalent if I'm making no sense here, I don't have a mac), then steam should still recognize it as its own game anyway and launch it as normal.

Verifying the game cache didn't do anything. It kept on saying all the files were already there.
So I downloaded the game and expansions manually, installed them, then moved all the files to the steam directory. It works fine now.

Thanks for the help

Weird; we've got a fair number of mac players here, so this doesn't happen generally.

Well, sorry you had to bend over backwards like that, but I'm glad it works now.  I hope you enjoy the game :)  Let us know if you have any questions.

Same problem. But it begin from another issue. Steam Achievments dont unlocks and I delete game folder in steam folder. But after re-download it - only expansions was installed without executables.
System - Windows XP. Will try to install from the link above.
PS: Friend buy game later then me and all steam achievments works good.

UPD: Just reinstalled - game works, finally. But achivements not works anyway.
