Malware.Packer.Gen detected in these 3 files by Malwarebytes
« on: August 08, 2010, 12:39:05 am »
ai war fleet command/plugins/AIwarsteam.dll
tidalis.app/contents/data/plugins/TidalisST.dll
Tidalis_data/plugins/TidalisST.dll

These 3 files came up dirty in a scan I did earlier tonight.  This is on Malwarebytes, newest update.  I doubt your products are virus ridden or anything, but I'm curious why they came up as viruses.  I have the files here, attached for you.  I'm sending a copy to malwarebytes to see if it is just a false positive or not, but figured you might want them as well.  I renamed the second tidalisST.dll as 2, so that both would fit in.  Hope this help you guys.

Those files are the steam interlink and as such as much malware as steam is ;)

100% a false positive

Thanks very much for finding this out for us and letting us know :)

Yea, those are the steam wrapper libraries.  Given that Steam tends to interact pretty closely with the game applications through these wrappers and the various internet communications, etc, it doesn't surprise me that false positives would come up on them.  This is also apparently not a new false positive on steam games:

Hopefully Malwarebytes will fix things on their ends shortly, thanks for going ahead and sending them the files, etc.

Now if it had reported Overly.Addictive.Game or something like that... ;)

Well good to know.  I do hope to hear back from malwarebytes soon.  Would be nice to get this put to bed.  I knew I had nothing to worry about personally, but those not computer savy might think your packaging your games with something, and that would definitely be bad for business.  You guys work to hard in my opinion to have something like that effect ya.  Will let ya know what malwarebytes says when i get a reply from them.

At the current moment, they are being looked into.

Yea, it can hurt the appearance of things, certainly, but we generally don't worry about it since basically every game (indeed, every nontrivial program) gets hit with these sorts of false positives every now and then.  Sort of a force of nature ;)  But it is great to get the AV vendor involved promptly, thanks for that.

Wanted to let you folks know that malwarebytes has finished testing the files in question, and have cleared them.  They said they were FP's and have been fixed.
