Is it possible to play AI War from a USB drive?
« on: April 11, 2011, 11:41:57 pm »
I've been wondering, is it possible to play AI War portably?  Sometimes, I just feel like starting a campaign or two when I'm bored and do not have my computer on hand, but for some reason it doesn't work and can not find the AIWarData folder or something along those lines.

And as for how I'm trying to do this, I'm attempting to install it on my flash drive via the installer.

Sure, go for it. The game doesn't use the registry or anything. I'm not sure what the trouble is that you're having, but I'd suggest just installing it somewhere else, testing that it runs, and then copying the whole thing to your USB drive. I know there are others who play this way.

Yea, just copy a working installation to your USB stick and run the .exe on the USB copy and it should be fine, keeping the saves and all.

I don't know what the save-to-disk performance would be like, but the game doesn't do massively-frequent writes or anything like that (which would be a problem for hardware with a limited number of writes before corruption).
