[Solved] Could not initialize DirectX

Hey I just downloaded the demo version of your game.  The install process seemed to go through fine and I didn't see any error messages pop up.  However when I tried to start the game an error message popped up saying that "it could not initialize DirectX".

I tried searching the Forums for help one topic had many suggestions, however re-installing DirectX did not work for me.

I could really use some help with this because I am really looking forward to playing the game.

Sorry for the trouble there. Can you try reinstalling slimdx? It is on the prerequisites page here. If that did not install correctly, that could also lead to an error like that. Hope that helps!

I just re-installed the SlimDX.  It didn't make a difference and I got the same error message.

Would it make a difference that I have Windows 7?

You may need to install directx9 since it's not shipped with Windows 7. Link is also on prerequisites page.

Yeah I installed the latest DirectX and it still didn't work.

I think I found my problem though.  I actually just installed Windows 7 a few days ago and apparently it does not register my graphics card.  I am currently looking for driver updates for it so any help would be useful.

I see, that would also do it if you have a generic graphics card driver. Just go to nvidia.com, and that has a wizard that will get you just what you need. Once you have a real driver installed, then direct3d would actually be able to function.

I'm still having trouble downloading the drivers because both my Laptop and the nvidia driver search wizard are failing to recognize my video card. I'm not sure if anyone here can help me with this issue but any suggestions would be appreciated.   In case you are wondering they are calling my card a:

Standard VGA Graphics Adapter

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm, that is unusual for an nVidia card in my experience.  I would suggest that you look for the model number and manufacturer on the laptop (it is usually on a sticker on the bottom).  Then go to the manufacturer's website, and look for drivers.  They will probably have windows 7 drivers on their site, for the graphics card and otherwise.  If the nVidia software is failing to directly identify your drivers, which is highly unusual, then you're pretty much limited to getting the drivers directly from the manufacturer (i.e. IBM, Dell, Sony, HP, whatever).

They should be able to fix you up, at any rate.  But there are almost no games you'd be able to play off the Standard VGA driver, since that doesn't support hardware acceleration of any kind to my knowledge, and only supports something like 640x480 resolution in most cases (at least on XP -- not sure about Win7, though that's what I'm running also).

Well yeah that helps...kinda, apparently HP does not have any driver support for my laptop for Windows 7.
Oh well thanks for all the support anyways, best support and troubleshooting forum I've seen in any game or company yet.

I guess i will try to run it on my old desktop then lol.

Sorry to hear that about the HP laptop -- maybe that will be forthcoming in the future, I don't know.  You might try any Vista drivers that they have, the two operating systems are very very similar.  Our pleasure on the support, and best of luck to you with the laptop troubles.

this driver here http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_notebook_winvista_win7_179.48_beta.html for 32bit and this one http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_notebook_winvista_win7_64bit_179.48_beta.html for 64bit should work fine. If you install later drivers for Win7 they no longer seem to support the 7800M ;/

Also important is if you are running Windows 7 x64 (64bit) or Windows 7 x86 (32bit) that you choose the right drivers.

Well, if you already tried these then i don't know either. ^^

Support for GO 7800 has stopped too, so no new drivers coming up ever again.

well after a bunch of emails exchanged with nvidia customer support i have got my drivers working and everything is working fine.  great game by the way. =)
