Gamersgate Zenith Remnant exp. question
« on: February 28, 2013, 04:11:31 pm »
I just bought the AI War bundle on Gamersgate. On the download page for Zenith Remnant there is also a content package  but as far as I can see this package seems a bit old compared to the installed content in ZR. The version number in the content package for ZR shows
v 2.001 but the installed ZR shows v 3.060.

The files content in the package is a bit bigger than the installed ZR too. So what is the thing to do?

The current official version of the game is 6.0; did something downloaded from GamersGate (since last October, at least) have a version earlier than that?

The version of the content package is okay; the content files have not been updated since the original launch of TZR, so hence their having that version number.  No worries!  We almost never update expansion content files after a release.

In terms of the actual code and language files and so forth, those have been updated repeatedly for years for TZR, and all of that is contained in the main code installation.  If you have version 6.0 installed, or update to that via the in-game updater, your version of TZR's code and language files are included in that (and are NOT included in the content installer, which is just images and music).

TLDR: Install that content pack, and update the game (if needed) via the in-game updater, and you're all good!

Hope that helps!

Besides music and image files in the content package there is also a language folder with several xml files.

The files included:

1techs
1shiptypes
1ships
1minorfactions
1main
1aitypes
1achievements

I can see that there is no language folder in the other expansions and some of the files I named here are older than the ones in the base language folder. I was thinking that these files would override the base game that have newer files than these. Should I just skip the language folder and just install the music and image files?

I believe those language files are under the Expansions/1/Languages/en/ subfolder, yes?  In that case, they're just completely ignored; the real language files were moved to the root Languages/en/ to avoid just the sort of issues you're referring to.

Anyway, either way those language files are not needed, but they should be not causing a problem.
