I recently formated my windows drive and reinstalled it, however now when i start the game it immediately crashes, does it require registry files in order to function?

No, it doesn't require any registry files.  But what version are you installing?  And does it give you any error messages when it crashes?

I'm not installing any version, I'm using the previous installation but after i reinstalled the drive with my OS on it, it instant crashes when i launch the exe file. It says nothing but

"AI War: Fleet Command has found an error and is terminated. We are sorry for any convinience" (or very close to it, translated from danish)

It sounds like it might have been one of the SlimDX versions -- in which case you'd be missing all the prerequisites, like SlimDX in particular.  I'd suggest installing the latest 4.0 version, which doesn't have any prerequisites and is more awesome in every way, anyhow. ;)

One way to get the version would be to open up one of your save files (.sav in the /Save/ subdirectory in the game directory), I believe the first line has the version number.

If it is a version from before 4.0 and you really want to play that exact same version for those saves, it may involve re-installing in order to make sure that the proper versions of SlimDX and .NET are on your machine.  One of the nice things about 4.0+ is that it doesn't need any of that stuff to run.
