Could not preload global game manager #0
« on: December 03, 2010, 01:02:48 pm »
I just updated with the newest beta patch, and now when I try to start the game I get the following error message:  "Could not preload global game manager #0"

How can I fix this?  Do I need to reinstall?

Hmmm.... what version were you on previously?  The last official, or a recent beta?  I'm on the same OS as you, and it didn't do that.

That is really odd, then.  You might try doing a manual update to 4.032, and then updating back to the latest beta again.  Sorry to hear about this.

If worst comes to worst and that then STILL happens, I'd manually update to 4.03, then manually do all of the updates until the last one.  For the last one, I'd then get rid of the AIWar_Data\mainData and AIWar_Data\sharedassets0.assets files before doing the final update, to see if that helps.

Hopefully the first thing would do it, though.

I decided to just reinstall.  It now works, and shows version 4.044.  My guess is, something was corrupted previously.

Many thanks for all your help on this -- the quick response was amazing.

I want to say that the game is also amazing.  One of the best I've ever played, and I've been playing wargames since the 1970's.

Awesome, glad that fixed it, at least!  And my pleasure on the quick response.

Thanks for the kind words -- I always love to hear from grognards who have been into it for so long. :)

Hi Chris,

Just a quick note that I tried updating to the latest Light of the Spire beta today (also on Win7 x64) and got this same error. It was a reasonably older version (with all other expansions enabled).

My Mac OS X laptop install went just fine. (Going on a business trip, need a game!)

Cheers!

It's due to not all the files getting updated quite as expected on some older versions, I think. Hopefully when we do the next official, these will just become a thing of the past. Installing the last official via the installer (no need to do more than the base game) and then updating should fix it.

Good to see you again! :)

Very good, I'll do that when I'm back, thanks! Can't wait to try the new Spire ships while away. :)
