Mixing arcen store bought + steam bought

 So, I have all the ai war stuff (bought in arcen store), but now that there's a big rebate on steam, i think i've convinced my friend to update his game so we can play together with the double personality thing. He has everything except the last 2 xp bought from the arcen store (he won't buy the champion xp, just the vengeance xp).

 How can he make use of the current steam rebate (1.24$ for last expansion) to update his arcen store bought game?

If he registers his keys on Steam, then it will let him just buy the expansion there and use it through steam.

Alternatively, if he registers just the base game, he can then buy the expansion (you can't buy DLC on steam without the game it is for).  Then download the expansion through the steam client, and copy that into his non-steam copy of the game and it will work.

So, my friend pressed the activate game from serial button in steam to add his fleet command and xp he bought from arcen store. Worked fine except for zenith xp, steam would not accept it.

 Now he wants to copy the vengeance xp from his steam install to his normal install and then throw away steam. How?

edit: for future reference, my fridn copy a folde named "5" from his steam install to his local install and it seemed to work out but we ran out of playtime to make sure it works.

 So, is there a way to trade a zenith key for one that is recognized by steam?
