Save/Statistics Box Do Not Fit on 1024x600
« on: October 30, 2010, 03:54:39 am »
Hi,

Loving the trial so far, although a little swamped by the depth and complexity (which is no bad thing!).  However, I've hit an issue that is pretty much the ballgame for me - I can run in 1024x600 resolution great, but the Save and Statistics screen are too large for me to be able to either close them or, in the  case of the Save box, actually 'save'!

EEEPC900mhz, 2gb ram (I know, I know, but I figure with low/very low performance mode, low unit caps and 10-30 planet games, should be OK)

Small note - 10-30 planets is not really recommended for starting with AI War.. it can be much more difficult than 50-60+ planets.
And please report your issue on mantis: http://www.arcengames.com/mantisbt/

datom, welcome to the forums :)  Sorry about the window sizing thing, that's my fault ;)  I was testing against 768, etc.

I'll see what I can do with those windows.

Wow!  That's two unbelievably quick responses.  Cheers!

And thanks for putting together such an unfeasibly good game.  Real-time strategy game with actual strategy!

Quick?  It was over 5 hours! ;)

Anyway, I'm testing some changes to the save-game and stats-windows control sizes.  Also got the load-game screen while I was at it. (FYI, you can do a load-existing-game or save-over-game via double clicking the target; so you could kinda work-around the no-save thing by manually creating a .sav file in your Save directory, etc).

Any other windows too large for the netbook?

Ok, I've sent changes up to resize the save, load, stats, and settings windows.  The settings one just barely fits vertically during a game, but all the buttons should be usable.

These changes will be part of the next prerelease, which hopefully will go out today.

Thanks, and let us know if you see any other windows you can't use.

Oh, and yea, I wouldn't go below 50 planets for beginner; 40 planets _maybe_.  10 is a cage match with a sabretooth tiger :)

Wow.  Now that's customer service.  Point taken about the planets, thanks guys.  Buying AI Wr just became the easiest decision I ever had.  Off to the online store!

That kind of support is pretty much standard here :D

Well, it looks like the release will have to wait until monday, sorry about that.  If you really need to save a game on 600 height before then, try that double-click trick I mentioned :)

Cheers for the workaround - that's fantastic.  Is there a hot-key for closing windows that I've just missed?

So far, not seen any other similar issues, but I've been mostly playing the tutorial campaign; just the early stages, trying to get a feel for what I should be doing!

Same Problem:
EEE-PC ; 1024x600
Since Version 4 I can't access the "start game"-button in pre game lobby.

When I change to a higher resolution (compressed or scrolling)
the game changes back to plain 1024x600.

Thanks very much for the note about the lobby, I've sent up a fix for that too :)
