Base Game Verified + [Trial Version]
« on: January 10, 2011, 10:07:15 pm »
I bought the base game a while ago, and now there are expansions that I haven't purchased. I recently reinstalled the game only to find that I could only access a "trial version" with a 3 hour limit on game length and only able to fight against ONE type of AI. I do not know why I am supposedly running a trial version of this game that I paid for in full, but I would like to know how to rectify the issue.

Hi there,

Sorry for the confusion.  Assuming that you've entered the base game key, then the issue is that you're in the trial mode for one of the expansions.  We don't expect folks to buy our expansions sight-unseen any more than we do the base game, so as a handy feature you can try out the trials of any expansion you like -- while you do, however, it puts the entire game into trial mode.  You can easily turn off the unbought expansions by clicking Licenses / Expansions and simply disabling whatever expansions show up there.  Or if your base game key hasn't been entered, you can enter it there.

Normally you'd need to specifically install an expansion for this to happen, so it would be more obvious why its in trial mode from the start.  But our newest expansion, Light of the Spire, is currently in public beta and thus gets distributed whenever you update to the latest beta version of the base game, too.

Hope that helps, and thanks for your support!

I'm not sure which version number you're on, but on the main menu you can:

1) click the "License / Expansions" button
2) on the next screen, uncheck the box next to each of the (three) expansions
3) click save
4) if you aren't on a recent beta version, you'll need to close the game and re-open for this to properly "take"
5) see if it still says trial mode

Welcome to the forums, by the way :)

I'm currently running version 4.021 and when I click License/Expansions it says that Expansions 1 and Expansion 2 are - not installed. There are no check boxes and nothing in the settings menu seems to be geared toward deactivating expansions either. The paragraph under the License/Expansions menu says to deactivate the expansions, but I am unable to figure out how. I'm attempting to update the game in order to rectify the problem. Hopefully the interface will update to have checkable boxes. :P and thanks for the welcome!  :)

I updated the game to 4.065. A checkbox appeared ONLY for expansion three. I unchecked it and clicked save. Problem solved. For some reason the older version just wouldn't work. Thanks for the help!

Hmm, that is odd -- but, glad it worked out! :)

Sorry about the inconvenience.  Yea, some of the bugs fixed since the official version (4.021) were related to the whole trial/full thing.  Glad to hear it works now :)
