Doom Grind
« on: May 17, 2011, 06:21:11 am »
it seems that last time i did doom it is much more of grind with the core as it use to be. no it really hard. its nearly impossible without handicaps, and lower difficulty significantly. never use to be that hard, i don't know why but i  just cant even make first hr. when it was only ZR, i was able to survive for 37 hrs turtling against core and special forces caption then it got to hard since most tech was behind mrk 3 wormhole planet with dyno sphere that hostile to all -_- but that beside point what am i doing wrong, and it seems that for you to survive doom you need to follow an opener that relys on heavy defense, when usually i could taken at lease 3 planets by first 3 hrs. (dont want AIP to get to high). wondering if you have anytips on getting past first AI wave of 300 core ships with 2 spires, and 500 mark 2 ships -_-, it never use to be that high, :D 9 not as bad but i want to get god like out way, and could have if updates didn't happen all time where they change maps and all :D
AI War - even the smallest units can make all the difference no matter how weak they are still quite capable of taking the hits. if it can Kill and receive damage then it worth its time other wise if it cant kill and cant take the damage for the higher surviving ships then it is worthless.

A difficulty 10 "The Core" AI?  Yea, they're going to kill you ;)

Between about September '10 and February '11 we were making quite a lot of changes, and one area that got changed several times was how the difficulty scaled.  It's actually milder now than it was in the middle of that phase, but diff 10 is still much harder than it was in the earlier parts of 2010.

Nowadays, anyone who beats 2 Diff 10 "The Core" AIs without cheating or some kind of gimmick lobby setup should probably get some kind of medal ;)

i plan on doing that, i tend to have all modifiers on (excluding waves modifier), maybe that why so hard but i dont think showing no wave warning mod, should make it any harder beside not knowing what and when it is,
also dos advance warp sensors work when you got no wave warning mod on? like show basic warning? if not then suggestion?

I find that 2 regular AI on difficulty 9 can go from "instant death" to "hold your ground during early development", above that it seems to be plain "instant death" :D
There seems to be sooo much border-aggression after about 4-5 mins that my mk1-2 fleet is completelly incapable of holding them back.
A cap om mk1 FFs doesnt help much either as you simply cant sustain the pummeling the AI is giving you, at least I cant, not even when I take 1 or 2 nodes before they start attacking.

They are cool games though, for the 10-12 minutes they last :D

well what happen one game i had mark 3 full cap of FF, and Engineers mark 2 Full CAP, i gate R&##$ by 500 CORE BOMBERS, they instantly destroyed my one FF after one volley.

In my humble opinion it makes sense that if you have an AI difficulty scale of one to ten it should be basically impossible to loose to difficulty one and basically impossible to win against difficulty ten, they're there more for reference or fun then for actually playing a game against.
