Wave warnings that give ??? for location name
« on: September 09, 2013, 12:04:05 pm »
In a few games I've been getting wave warnings that don't give a location for their target (e.g. 200 Fighters to ??? in 3:00). Whats your usual method for figuring out where these kinds of waves originate from?

AIs only send waves to your planets. If your planet (Command Station) gets destroyed before the wave arrives the destination will be changed to "? ? ?". The wave will still arrive to the same planet. You just can't see the destination because you don't hold that planet anymore.

Also, if the AI has no adjacent warpgates to your territory then it will send it to a random AI/neutral world next to one of yours. This will also show up as ? ? ?
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

The Raid Engine sends waves to its own planet, so you'll also see it as ???

IIRC certain mobile ships like the Sentinel Frigate can detect waves incoming to its planet the same way as Command Stations can.
