So after not suffering enough after beating the two mad bombers on unannounced waves game setting, I decided to try something a little more brutal. I opted to face a Golemite and a Core AI.
The Core was more or less what I expected. Low number of ships that deal a serious amount of hurt.
The Golemite though I had some issues with. The problems I had:
1) Golems have no weaknesses. It was a pain to kill an artillary golem, even though it was unable to really harm an attacking fleet it takes like 20 minutes of fire from a huge number of ships. Taking down an Armored Golem is an absurd experience that basically requires you to throw 250m HP of ships at it for it to kill itself, cause you'll never deal that much damage to it.
2) Reinforcements. Golems have this attribute that increases AI reinforcement size by 5x. This appears to be in effect for the AI, which is a serious, serious pain in the ass. Especially when the other AI is 'The Core', which means that every minute or two I spend trying to kill a golem I got 200 more core ships to deal with. And to make it worse, if the AI has more than one golem in a system, the effects stack. Two golems increase reinforcement size not by 10x, but by 25x.
So if the AI normally would reinforce 40 ships, with 1 golem, he brings in 200 ships. With 2 golems, he brings in 1000 ships. I didn't see systems with more than two golems, but if there was an AI system with 3 in it, I'm pretty sure you couldn't kill it. I tested the stacking reinforcement bonus thing in a separate game, bringing 4 golems into an AI system would cause it to instantly reinforce the system to about 6000 ships (which caused my computer to attempt suicide).
I never saw the AI attempt to repair a golem so I can't say much about the AI progress going up when the AI repairs them (which doesn't make much sense).
Has anyone else attempted battling the Golemite AI? Any tips? Anything I might be missing?
