tractor beam help
« on: May 13, 2010, 11:58:22 pm »
there's a few mk3 tractor beam around the guard post i want to destroy, i love transports but 200 bombers get sucked up very fast, that's still ok but it takes forever to destroy one tractor beam, and there's enemies, should i use more transports to get my other forces?

Generally speaking it's good to have a lot of stuff to hit the tractors, or else some really long-range stuff (like Zenith Bombards) to take them out without getting sucked into them.

i like the 400 bomber way, cause you know, i'm attacking with transports, and cannot leave with 48 bombers or more stuck in tractor beams

You might try vacuming the bombers up with transports.
Select the bombers and tell them to load on the transport.
next select the transport only and fly it back and forth over the bombers. When the transport loading sweet spot goes over the tractored ships they will load anyway.

Or command the bombers to move out of tractor range (like a transport just out of tractor range)
Fly a ship with force fields (Raid for example) over the stuck units to break the tractors grip.

Both require micro  :P

This actually sounds more like a bug :-)

Think of it like grabbing a hand-hold. :)

no way, transports can suck up tractor beam held ships? AWESOME, maybe flying out of the puny range of tractor beam is good idea.

Why do Leech starships get caught up in tractor beams when no other starship seems to?

Its a real micro-management pain if you want to move one across two or three neutered planets to reach a new front line and have to escort it with raid starships to kill every last tractor beam first.

I was unaware that leech starships were so singularly vulnerable to tractor beams amongst starships. Unless there is some design decision behind it, it sounds like an oversight or a bug to me.

Indeed, that was fixed a while ago, but it might be just in the betas, not sure.  So if the game in question is 3.120, that fix might not be applied yet.

Great thanks! I should get round to updating, but I'm just too attached to my un-nerfed transports at the moment  ;)
