Tips and tricks for detonating.(need help)

So, you got your emp over there and needs to detonate it, you have 2 things to worry about, when it's gonna explode and when are you gonna send your troops in.

going to that planet and manually detonate it takes more than 2 or 3 seconds for you to press galaxy map, go back to your planet, and select the ships you want to go in, i know it's not much but it would be cool that if you had a c4 detonator thing, remotely detonating it from your planet. or just give me tips how to save time on this.

Set the emp and the ships you need to control groups, say groups 1 and 2. Get your ships in position to go through the wormhole, then send the emp (group 1) through. Just as you click the wormhole double tap 2 (the group for your ships) and send them through. Then double tap 1, which will send you to the planet with the emp. Detonate it and decimate the AI when your ships come through seconds after. Make sure you dont take out your own ships - the timing is crucial.

Usuaully I just send it through and wait until I hear the explosion from my planet, then send my stuff through.  The AI ships will obligingly kill any warheads that pop in unless you've cleared the wormhole.  Of course, if you need to detonate multiple EMPs at once, pierre's way would be the better route because the AI ships will only be able to kill one of your warheads before it freezes them.

Or use the pause function.

I've gone as far as mapping pause to my middle mouse button, it's safe to say I find pause tremendously useful and it sounds exactly like what you are looking for.

Or use the pause function.

I've done that myself, on occasion.  Sometimes throwing a unit through a wormhole and then pausing to look around and find my target is helpful for then sending the rest of my fleet over to smash it to smithereens, heh.

Heh.

Tremendously useful = me abusing it really.

Grenade launchers have a 7500 range, laser gattlings have a 6000 range, by abusing pause I can keep the launchers in range without taking any return fire.

Not it's intended purpose I know, but it's the only thing keeping me alive on this diff 10 game I'm trying.

Heh. Well, making it less realtime of a game is allowed, as far as I'm concerned. ;)

given how long a real time game of AI war takes, playing it turn-based is surely going to take a lifetime  ;D

Yeah, it pretty much does  :D the difference is you get more time to plan tactically as well as strategically so things tend to work first time. Like playing chess I guess. Scary how similar this game is to chess...

Turn based strategy games are just too slow for my liking

but again , the abusation of the Pause Function doesn't mean you have to pause every second
(wait , ain't we getting off-topic with the Pause Function? but i guess the OP's Question has been answered)
