Ok this map sounds good, what about 2 Level 7.6 SF Captains with No enemy waves, the person to survive the longest wins?

I'd still prefer the games of the month to be more about playing common games and comparing stories and strategies rather than setting meta-rules and seeing who wins based on a set condition.
The wins thing is a good point, i suppose i could just post it up and then we can figure out who picks next later.

Yeah, the problem with not worrying about a "winner" means its harder to decide who picks the next game, but perhaps we'd get better results with a vote, anyway.

Oh, and now we know what X uses to place wormholes: a couple concentric circles :)

Proof he has kept this ; + right click functionality a secret for far too long...clearly he knew of its great power!

We need to ask these tough questions...why were we not granted our circle formation ability sooner?  ;D

I'll take that as a Yes, post it up :)

Haha, I can do it if no one else is up to the task, but being custodian for the DLC suggestion topics is satisfying enough for me right now.  :)  Who was it that originally came up with the idea to have a GOTM? Maybe they should be the one to do it...

Getting back to the topic...

I've recently been playing on "Grid" maps and deliberately picking home systems that have at least 10 wormholes just to enjoy this kind of situation.  My list:

1.  Teleport Battle Stations are your personal saviour, of course.  But they're just one bonus ship and not always available.
2.  When wormholes are common, you can often position turrets so they cover multiple entrances.  It's worth doing this just to guarantee you'll get some potshots at incoming ships no matter what.  In particular, missile turrets have good range and shoot down bombers, which is essential because...
3.  Fortresses are the best and most reliable answer that is always available.  Huge range, mobile, lots of HP, gives mobile repair.  With a fortress around, you mostly only need to worry about bombers, which are practically immune to fortresses, and vampire claws, which are 100% immune to fortresses (missile immunity).
4.  Mines.  Yes, mines.  Two reasons:  First, they cost no energy.  Second, it only makes sense to put mines around wormholes anyway, so a system with lots of wormholes gives you an easy place to put them.  50 mines per wormhole is a good rule of thumb, and the default single-player cap of 1020 mines is perfect for a 20-wormhole system.  Area mines are especially good at wiping out warp raids, and will instantly wipe out almost all Mk I raids while severely weakening anything tougher.  I actually have a game where area mines were my MVP in total kills because I had two systems with 12+ wormholes each that were both extensively mined and repeatedly subject to warp raids.  When you're more worried about Special Forces, EMP mines might be better, since they delay enemies while you clean house and rebuild.

in 15 minutes iv had about 500 units attack me from 1 SF captain at difficulty 8. I'm using 20 markIII basic and 20 markIII MLRS turrets and those are keeping the AI at bay for now. the trader came through also so i ordered a super fortress which should be done in about 5 hours.

EDIT: woah devourer passed through my system. good thing he didn't come near my commands station.
Dropped the AI diff. to 7.6/7.6 and managed to get a solid foothold with ~150 mixed class Turrets (pretty much all kinds of offensive Turret), one Fortress, ~50 Attack-move Fighters near the home station to automatically interdict AI Bomber runs (there are no turrets in existence that can take out Bombers anything like fast enough to stop them from punching through the front lines).  Energy is rock bottom but fortunately enough the Traders passed through so all I have to do is dig in and scout (30% of galaxy explored so far) and Knowledge raid for a few hours until the Zenith Power Generator is online (largely to power all of the Exo-field generators that are essential for this map) and then it's business as usual.  Distribution Node raiding helped more often than it didn't, so net gains found there.

In the first hour I've seen:
- Most number of AI ships attacking Homeworld at any one moment: 1200.
- Most number of Astrotrains at the Homeworld: 9 (with never fewer than 2 present).
- Most number of Resistance fleets seen passing through nearby worlds at any one time: 6.
- Most number of Trader visits to Homeworld: 5 (even though only the first one was enough, thanks).
- Most number of Devourer visits to Homeworld: 2.

The game still runs like a hobbled Nerf so I doubt I'll be able to finish it but my goal here is to at least get into a position where business as usual can take place.  (I win more often than not once a business as usual state is achieved so that's a vital milestone in my book for this map.)

OK as a newbie I played this on my normal settings:

AI's @ 7
One Special Forces and one Random
Expansion selected but no ZR options ticked.
No waves (actually not normal setting there) and 1 AI/15 mins
Oh and trains removed.

It took a few goes but after about 20 mins I have managed to get a solid grip on my home sector.

Strategy was build 4 engineers and make a dash for leech starship.

Built an 80k powerplant and took the 40k one offline.

In the meantime built 4 MLR II's and about 40 fighters (for bombers) and 10 sprayers (for the zen chameleons).
Apart from sallying forth on anti bomber/chameleon runs occasionally everthing stayed inside the shield.

Waited to get exo shields up until after leech built.

Once leech was up it became trivial. Stole ship after ship and dragged them back inside my shield for repair.

Of course these included munitions boosteers so soon everything was firing at 5x power.  ;D

20 mins in and just finishing off my first fortress. I have 200 ships, opponent has 20 in system at the moment. I still have about 30k power and some resources in reserve - time for some scouting and moving on but with an AIP of 11 it looks safe for the moment.
