I voted for turtle, but simply because there's no other option for > 50% defense.   I'm a slow / methodical player, but I stop shy of outright turtle.... however that's the closest.

I would say its situational, dependent on the map type and whats available.

I use vampires as my extra unit, so I often find myself being very agressive at the start and then backing off later. I like to hit the planets early before they can build up too much.

i continuously send in attack waves. i usually start with two home planets, and i prefer tiny ships. just jump in an lay down fire!

Single Player(and not on a insane difficulty) : All Out Idiot

Multiplayer or on a Insane Difficulty : Balanced

and i almost always have Complex ships in my Fleet , not those Basic ships where you just point and watch them kill and get killed , i even had made fleets made of Ether jets just because i well wanted to(and hats , if you don't get the idea)

Fleet commander. The attack force IS the defense force when need be. Pause all factories and throw up a ton of turrets at once if something far away from them is going to be attacked.

I like to attack with raid starships and defend with the rest of the fleet on my side of the wormhole when I've stirred up a hornet's nest.

i turtle up a lot when i hear a wave warning at 100 ships, only because i don't like any mobile defenders and my turret defense can only hold off wandering ships
