The Meaning Of Colored Lines
« on: May 20, 2010, 11:58:54 am »
Hello! I'm new to AI War and have a question wich i could not get awnsered trough google,

The game is nice but doesnt explain a lot about the colored lines.

Some ships had a line because they were cloaked boosted. But other lines are a mystery to me...

For example;

I had some rebuilders in tutorial 4.
They had blue lines but also yellow and light blue between them.
A engineer also have blue lines but they are darker then a rebuilders line...
Then you have green lines, etc...

Also, when i use a rebuilder, can i rebuild enemy remains?
The rebuilder makes colored lines to enemys and a yellow one to empty space for some reason.
I had units that drawed lines from great distance to empty space or warp holes.

Can someone explain the different lines to me?

Welcome to the forums!

The green lines are engineers repairing something (healing/building it).  Those lines will go red if the engineer can't repair it for some reason, but is assigned to it ongoing.

The blue lines are tractor beams, and hold stuff in place.

The yellow lines are tachyon beams, and reveal stuff that is cloaked.

You can't rebuild enemy stuff, you'll want to use cleanup drones on that.  Rebuilders are for your own stuff.

No but a cleanup drone will remove them so that an AI rebuilder cannot rebuild itThe rebuilder makes colored lines to enemys and a yellow one to empty space for some reason. (there is a hidden enemy unit in that space)I had units that drawed lines from great distance to empty space or warp holes. (hidden enemy units)

Can someone explain the different lines to me?

Thank you both for the quick and correct reply!

I now only am wondering why they sometimes cant repair.
In my current game i have a rebuilder that has 0% engine.
The engineers have a red line to it.

So now i know what the red line means i can google it.

This is what i got:

Repairs

What Restrictions Are There On When An Engineer Can Repair Another Ship?
A: Engineers are not allowed to repair targets under the following circumstances:
1. The target is non-repairable (Fortresses and Force Fields).
2. The target is itself busy repairing another ship.
3. The target took damage within the last three seconds.
There are no restrictions on how many engineers can simultaneously repair/assist any given ship.

So the rebuilder cant be repaired because 2 sniper turrets in range consantly shoot it...

Again, Thanks!

Yep, that would do it -- your conclusion is absolutely right!

A while back you could parasite and cap on destruction AI turrets and stuff. Ended when cleanup drones came into the game iirc.

The darker blue circle around a ship means it's cloaked.

Also blue lines are Cloak Boosters, which only the scout ships have, but they boost any cloaked unit, including remains rebuilders, cleanup drones, etc.

A cloaked ship that is cloak boosted by another ship cannot be decloaked by tachyon drones. Note that this is limited somehow, I think it's that if a ship is cloak boosting another ship, it cannot itself be cloak boosted, but I'm not 100% on that.

Wait.

Force Fields are totally repairable.
