Stopping Planet Reinforcement
« on: June 14, 2010, 09:54:42 am »
So I just found the first Core Homeworld, and I'm three hops away from a border world with no less than 5(!) data centers. One hop from the border world is a zenith generator. I could desperately, desperately use that generator for my final assault, but I don't want to put the border world on alert. Simply put, is there any way to neutralize the build up of forces on alerted planets? Neutering the warp gate? Killing all the guard/spec forces posts? Or am I just condemned to either using regular power generators or a long slog of keeping border world forces to a minimum?

Yes. Here's how...

Those planets will continue to receive reinforcements at their wormholes but it'll be significantly less than without these measures.

They'll also still get the reinforcements at the command station itself, too.  If you neuter the homeworld long before capturing it, then put it on alert, that's still going to be a tough fight but it might not be a ridiculously overpowered one.  I'd be nervous about it with the homeworlds in particular, but it's worth a shot if you really need the power...

Fighting Homeworlds are always tough , and placing a Homeworld on alert is more likely to spell defeat then Speak Victory , so i recommend that you use original Power Reactors to power your final Push

but if you have real reflexes , you can capture the zenith power generator and quickly make a push into the Homeworld after gaining enough power

You could max out your fleet and put it on low power as it is built then capture the power plant, activate your units then go nuts. If you do it fast enough the ai won't be able to reinforce significantly.

Update on the situation:

I went ahead and captured the zenith power generator, for several reasons. One is that capturing it didn't put the homeworld on alert, just the world bordering it. Two is that the border world on alert had five data centers, a huge find at this late stage in the game. I was lucky enough to find raptors in an ARS some time back, and had no idea how effective they were at infrastructure raiding until I landed my fleet on the border planet with a full complement of MKI through IV raptors. I expected a long slog to clear out all the guard posts and data centers, only to watch in dumbfounded amazement as the raptors took out four of the data centers and eight of the ten guard posts in one run. Because I'm relying almost entirely on Z generators my economy is in crazy good shape, and within ten minutes I was able to clear out the rest of them with no problem.

With the border world fully neutered and both Core homeworlds scouted, I currently own 12 planets, and my AIP sits at 120.

After completion I'll post the full log in the AAR section.
