« on: March 08, 2012, 06:15:51 pm »
1) How player can use stealth units (space planes, cloackers, etc.)? I found that I do not use stealth to my favour at all.Any tips?
2) Ai with stealth units is pain just becouse  player has vey few stealth detector turrets. Why there were so little cap of antistealth turrets? What is desing decision behind this?

1. Ideally, put your ships in low-power mode or similar so that they don't fire on the enemy until you want them to.  Then get them into empty space on an AI planet.  You can even bring in a conventional forces, if you wish, to draw away some of the AI forces and then go in for the kill with your stealth forces that the AI isn't aware of the position of.

2. You need to carefully use choke points to make best use of your tachyon units.  Also, if you put the tachyon beams near the wormhole, you only need one per wormhole since that will give you some visibility into the AI presence on your planet and a limited window in which to engage them.  You'll notice that's also mostly how the AI uses its own tachyon units.

In terms of why the low cap of anti-stealth units, think of it this way: supposing you could blanket your entire chain of plannets in tachyon beams.  What would gameplay against a stealth AI then be like?  It would be... the same as playing against a non-stealth AI opponent, right?  Except that you'd be "taxed" in the form of building all those tachyon structures.  That's boring, and just a hassle that leads you back to the same-old gameplay as long as you're willing to maintain your structures.  Giving you a limit, however, means that playing against a stealth opponent is actually different.

I see, get into enemy system, destroy tacyon emitter, and if i see a guard post without defenders I can send stealth units to kill it. Good advice thanks. Did you or anyone else something fun with your stealth units? It is interesting to hear your stories.

The AI likes to use stealth units to sit in large numbers on your systems and lurk until you move your fleet out, then they cause shenanigans.
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

Military stations III completely neutralize the cloaking threat.
Life is short. Have fun.

put a bunch of blade spawners in a transport and send the transport through a wormhole with 1 or 2 cloacker starships (make sure the tachyon guardian is already dead). Move them to a spot as far away from enemy units as possible, but still within the limits of the gravity well. Unload the transport units and let them do their work. They will attack guard posts, causing the guards to attack you. when the enemy ships get close, put your blade spawners in the still cloacked transport. Watch enemy ships move away to go stalk your wormhole. when they're far enough, repreat the process. Even Mk IV worlds will eventually die like this.

Create "pit stops" at hostile planets with a group of cloaked engineers. Less useful when you get engie 3s, but it will still keep them alive.

Maybe they should go to the buff pull. They do die when something sneezes (similarly to tachyon turrets.. and drones I guess).

I think that most reliable decloaker is now scout starship - esp if made to be treated as military ship so it can follow your fleet nicely.
