Spontaneous creation
« on: April 14, 2010, 05:32:10 pm »
I've read through various wikis and forum articles, but am confused by the fact that AI command ships and guard posts appear to be able to create new ships out of nowhere.

I understand that you can reduce the number of reinforcements arriving at a planet by knocking out the guard posts and warp gate, but surely the AI reinforcements should only enter the planet via wormholes, not just appear spontaneously.

Even after neutering a planet, unless you're prepared to destroy the command ship, it will just spawn new defenders and turrets -OK if you don't plan to drop by again, but a pain if you have a string of planets to pass through to move your fleet between two of your worlds and have to constantly keep fighting back and forth. Transports lessen the pain, but mobile builders still have to be escorted everywhere, which slows things down and distracts me from trying to get somewhere.

So far I'm 20 hours into my first game, so apologies in advance if I'm missing something obvious!

Well I think it is stated in the game that "when a planet gets reinforcements, each guard post gets reinforcements too." That's what's meant by reinforcements, they instantly create a  number of units at their posts/command stations. Their ships don't come from wormholes unless it's a wave.

If your having problems getting through a neutered system, then the best solution would be to finish it off and incur the AIP.

Cant have your cake and eat it too. ;)

Yep, those ships are arriving from outside the galaxy via warp, which is why you don't see them being directly produced or created.  But yes, also, when you are neutering a planet you either have to lay down turrets/mobile guards at the wormholes you want kept clear, or you need to use transports to get through, or you need to take the planet and eat the AIP increase.  If you could just neuter planets for no AIP and no extra ongoing work, that would be too easy! ;)

The AI production facilities are in another galaxy, thats the whole warp in deal.  the wormhles are fom planet to planet in galaxy. Guard posts/ comand stations act as a beacon for there galaxy to galaxy warping,  Warp gates can feed wormhole info to the galaxy warpers which is how they do raids.  At least thats how i think of it.

Guard posts and wormholes are like anchors, ai ships slingshot to these locations from another galaxy. ;) In raids they just slingshot a lot more ships at you directly.

.. is what i could say :D

Technically they just spawn there because.. they do. ^^
