My solution has been to load up a few transports and dump the ships directly on top of the spider nest clump. Immediately before (or while) doing this, move a number of FRD clean-up drones into the system (I usually set them to FRD rally at the edge of the system, so they teleport where needed and then teleport back to safety when not working). Ships kill turrets, clean up drones remove remains, easy peasy. If you want to get the maximum volume of ships back from the raid, it can be a good idea to bring an MRS to repair engines, but of course you may lose the MRS.

spider turrets are grossly OP. 50 energy each. 40 can neutralize waves of 200+. they outclass every other turret group, and have a way higher shipcap.

unfortunately, neutralize requires range. I once started a game where my home planet was the major chokepoint, and the wh i needed to defend was within firing range of my home station. Oh.. one of the AI types? Mad bomber.

Spider turrets become incredibly useless, because they require time to do their engine damage. I dont have time to sit around and watch bombers pound on my defenses..

Then again, take all that with a grain of salt, because I havent unlocked spider turrets in a while.
