Riot ship shields

Hello, racked up a good 50 hours of AI war with a few friends the last month since we started playing but one thing has never seemed to be clear - riot ships have hard shields (the type that push enemies back) but does that mean that they also do the damage reduction to your units firing from the inside? Done a good bit of googling but there doesn't seem to be a straight answer  ???

Also an additional question for when it comes to science raiding (the mk 3 science lab on an AI world)

Does the number of ships that you are fighting at any given time scale up with how many MK3 labs you have on the AI planet? I am just wondering if I am better off only using 1 or 2 labs and passing them about the team or building 6 - 8 in one go and only holding that off for a much shorter period of time... Sorry it's an inquisitive day!

I believe the damage reduction doesn't apply to riot shields, at least I could swear I read that somewhere. Someone more experienced with riots than me could probably tell you.

And I'm afraid I don't know anything at all about the science III labs... never used them before. Perhaps it's time to try them out.

Thanks! Yeah I have a feeling I read it briefly when I was alt+tab one session but that tends to be skim reading at best so it would be great to check, odd how I can't find it now though.

Ah tech 3 science,  couple of engineers, shield bearers (if you start with them) + leeches make for plenty of shiny new toys  :)

Last I saw, there was no damage reduction to ships from being under them -- I think that the riots are really kind of a mix of hard/soft shield.  They push, but they don't reduce.  That's unless it got changed by Keith since I last saw it. :)

Correct, they push (which is basically unique to them among mobile shields, it's a thematic thing) but do not reduce.  Their strength and coverage isn't huge but those two properties definitely add some utility.

Ah thanks, had a feeling it was full power to the guns but thanks for clarifying! Might be an idea to clarify that one in the tooltip for the shield if you can...

Huh, I thought that science lab III was supposed to cause the AI to send zombie bots, to prevent abuse.

They do make zombies for that exact reason.
