Question about AI waves
« on: November 19, 2010, 08:03:09 am »
1. Been playing for about three weeks. Did a little reading and dived right in. Big mistake. Got creamed.

2. Read some more, checked the forums, learned a lot. Finally beat the AI. Quite satisfying.

3. QUESTION: (Answer might be obvious but I don't see it so I'm asking) My home planet is connected to two other planets only and I own both of them. I then get notice of a wave coming to my home planet. I build up my defenses on the connected planets thinking that the wave will come through them. But no. When the wave hits , they just appear on the home planet. Why does this happen and how can it be countered if at all?

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

You must have destroyed/activated a Counter-Attack Wave, if you have an earlier save check planets you were just attacking before the wave was announced to find it. It looks like a jagged pacman.

- Counter-Attack Guard Posts send a wave to a random planet you own when you:

1. Destroy the command center of the system they are in or

2. Destroy the counter-attack guard post itself.

Unless you are facing the Warp Jumper AI, a Counter-Attack Guard Post is the only current possible source a wave like that can come from. x4000 is aware that is often confusing and is planning on making it so that the wave type is also announced to avoid this sort of confusion.

As for counters building a Warp Jammer on non-homeworld systems is the only current method of deflecting it from systems you don't want them in. (They cost alot of energy and have a limited cap so use them for vital systems only.)

x4000 is planning on redoing counter-attack waves so additional counters aren't being looked at for the moment.

I'm not really planning on reducing the counterattack waves at this point -- they're about right in the most recent versions, I think.  The discussion on reduction was about certain ship types in waves in general (the big stuff, like zenith electric bombers and most of the spire stuff), but those reductions apply to both regular and counterattack waves.

OK. Went back to an earlier save and scouted the planets. Lo and behold, I found the counter attack guard post which when I destroyed it immediately generated the wave. I didn't notice the connection the first time. There is always something new to learn. Thanks for pointing it out.

I wasn't thinking you were going to reduce counter-attack waves actually, but I didn't know what you had in mind at the time so I left it at 'redoing' in a open ended sort of way.

Whatever change you decide on should work out fine.
