Post Your Favorite Strategy!

A thread where you can share a particular strategy/tactic with other AI War players!

A favorite of mine:

Pick a home system that gives you raptors. (Edit: I have since played a bit more, and "raptors" is pretty much interchangible with autocannon minipods or space planes)
They're awesome. They cloak, they pack quite a punch in large groups, they got awesome range, and they're faster than anything else (I've avoided frigate attacks by simply flying out of the missiles' range).

I like putting them into low-power mode and flying them into an AI system (given that I've scouted (always scout ahead, kids!) and there's no tach-emitting enemies on the 'hole). Then I fly them to the edge of the system, power up, and strike.

Since the AI is usually in groups around guard posts and wormholes, I start by striking those, one at a time: Appear, shoot stuff to pieces, fly off and cloak. Repeat as needed.

Great tactic to take a system with minimal effort, or to soften up an higher-level system before sending in a larger fleet.

Combine with teleporty, cloaky cleanup drones to cause added grief, and/or Mk III engies for cloaky in-field repairs.

Anyway, what's one of your favorite tactics? Share!

a favorite of mine is getting 4 force fields and making a nice little box around an enemy wormhole, putting a couple lightning warheads in the box and then blowing up the enemy command station on the other side. i usually reserve this tactic for those systems that are packed with high mark units that have been reinforcing for a few hours.

once the ai start coming through the wormhole in mass they all get stuck in the shields and since there are a couple of warheads in there with them they will shoot the warheads first if there isnt anything else within range(besides the shields of course).

1 warhead is enough to kill everything except markIV bombers which is what the second warhead is for.

thousands of dead units for one low low price of just 1 or 2 AIP!

I like the "don't die" strategy. Usually works out for me ;D

One i like and just discovered with autobombs is the "Mega Cannon" one: Set a spacedocks rally point as FRD and assist the dock: turns your spacedock into a giant cannon that fires seeking drones! ;D ;D ;D

My main enemy system killing strategy includes that all my ships on the planet fly, in group-mode, around all the destroyable points of interest (that are interesting for destruction (no ARS) but including wormhole defenses), manually target starships/fortresses/superfortress and at the end of the tripp blow up the warpgates and OCS or HCS and return to the incomming wormhole.

An other mostly useless strategy is flooding or spamming, I keep sending ships to enemy space. And sometimes it works.
I could hold up a steady good stream of ships without losing metal and crystal once!

Anyways, faforite strategy is the upper one (I also like to destroy zenith reserves)

I dunno...
Those are pretty great! But I discovered the amazingness of the planes lol and I'm sorry but nothing's better than having a shiz load of cloaked planes sneak into an enemy planet, going way outta range and popping up behind an AI's spec ops post or something and then raiding them with cheap, powerful planes. And once they focus on the destruction at hand just warp in a couple hundred frigates with a dreadnought and clean up the mess :D

But that's just me.   :D

My fav strategy just got nerfed to death.  T_T  Five light starships in a ring boosting massive groups of missile frigates is a great way to kill almost anything... or was, anyway...

Well, you got munition boosters for that now :).

I for one like the simple strategy of using FF bearers. Simply lets my units live a little longer, long enough to kill the enemy with minor losses.

I'm still running with 3.027, at least until the GotM is finished.... :D

Another one I tried the other day:

Use a mobile builder to build some mines on an adjacent enemy planet that you're not planning to capture. (FRD rebuilders and engies optional).
Keeps the number of enemy ships down a bit, as long as you're not alerting enemy planets adjacent to it.

No wait, I just found an awesome little tactic.

Transports and Tanks.

So, I just started a game, and decided to start with space tanks. They've got ludicrously high shielding and a beautiful damage output, but they're just so painfully slow...

So I tried filling a transport with them, and now I can clear a whole system in like a minute. Go here, unload tanks, fire one volley, load to transport, repeat while you ready a colony ship on the other side of a wormhole.

Fortress shock:  Burst your way through a wormhole with a mobile builder, drop down all 5 fortresses, bring in all your engineers, rapid build (counter sniper will be usefull if there are ion cannons, and a FF will be usefull if the enemy has bombards/other extreme range ships)..

That's... incredibly expensive.  You'll have to have 400kish crystal saved up to do it in any reasonable timeframe.
