What to attack first ?

So, if I go attacking a planet, which structures do I target first ?

ATM I´m killing guardposts, specialforces and then the wapgate and the commandstation as last. Would it be better killing the warpgates first ?
Old and mean ....

That's a pretty good order overall, killing the warpgate/command station first would cause a bunch of ships to attack your nearby planets.
Avid League player and apparently back from the dead!

If we weren't going for your money, you wouldn't have gotten as much value for it!

It usually depends on the planet layout and what forces I have nearby personally.  Sometimes if I have the defenses, its worth speeding things up by taking out the command center first(and possibly freeing up all the units).  If the units are dangerous(say a mk IV planet next to your home and you don't have hundreds of turrets up yet), then your order is what I go for.  What you are doing is prob the safest way to do things, but as you get more experience on how dangerous various planets are at various points in the game, you will learn when you can cut corners to speed things up :).

Of course the answer, like in any good strategy game, is: It Depends.

I advocate taking out the Command Station very early usually.  Depending on how fast you are able to take down the AI structures.    Killing the AI station prevents the AI from reinforcing there, so you won't have to hit each place twice or three times in your attack. 

Also, having all the AI's ships come to you isn't really a bad thing, as it makes it easier to micro.   And you'll have turrets up. (Right?)

It depends on where the Command Station is in relation to where the AI ships will go when released. If my fleet can intercept them before they go into my core systems (or if I have another fleet there), I will kill the Command Station asap.

But I would (almost) never build turrets to do this.

That's generally how I do it. Personally the way I take a planet is I usually split my force into 2-4 equal groups (pending on the defender size and how many ships i have) and use command groups to keep them separated (typically 1-4). Using group move and way point movement I have them move just to the other side of a guard post then move to just the other side of another guard post, doing this they just fly along their route and flatten EVERYTHING in their path. I don't use attack-move for this since they have a tendency to get strung out that way chasing after every little thing nearby, if I'm not using way points I'll change their command from move to attack-move as they get closer (either when the enemy leaves their post to intercept or as my longest range attacker is getting close to their attack range) as well as dropping the group move so that the faster close range fighters can get in close fast while the carriers and such get to hang back at their optimum range, tends to sort itself out rather nicely.

Anyway depending on what is at the special ops base (if there is one) I may work it out so two or more groups converge there for a nice flanking attack, if its the base alone and unguarded one of my groups will usually do (keep in mind my initial attacking force is virtually never below 800-1200 ships plus 2-4 leech star ships and a mobile repair station - to avoid having my ships constantly dragged from battle I tend to put the 100% and some times the 66% tugs on low power.....as such even one of my sub-groups is usually more than enough to take a lightly guarded special ops base)

Next is the warp gate and command center, if there are any remaining enemy ships in the area I'll send one or two of my groups toward the friendly wormhole(s) but vast majority of the time there is nothing left alive when i destroy the command center so it isn't really an issue but it's a good practice to have all hostile wormholes guarded with turrets anyway just to be safe so whatever does go through doesn't last for more than a few seconds anyway.

NORMALLY things go very smoothly when i follow that pattern but depending how strong their defenses are and what kind of specials you have things might go pretty slow and you'll have multiple reinforcements appear while taking the planet. (I hate when they appear right at my friendly wormhole since that's usually where my support ships like mobile repair, mobile builder, colony, etc are hanging out...)


The only time I can really suggest going right to the command center is if there is only one friendly wormhole which makes it predictable where the released ships will go so you can defend it well....clearly this is a VERY bad idea if your dealing with a planet which is heavily defended (ie: 1000+ ships) but for lighter defended planets or ones you've softened up by wiping some of the guard posts and such it can work out alright. Still since your going to be taking the planet (presumably if you are wiping the command center) I don't really see the advantage over just systematically sweeping through the planet wiping everything as you go. Whatever works though as long as it doesn't backfire on you.

unless its a realyl entrenched planet, I split my forces, with one part cleaering the system and the other guarding the wormhole. I leave enogh stuff at the wormhole to kill the things that will try to come at me when I kill the command post. If I estimate I need more then half my forces for either purpose, I avoid killing the command station and kil evrything else first.

Of course things like ion cannons and what have you cna nad will take highest priority, this kind of targets I try to kill with raiders or some other fast ship.

guard post seem like an good idea specail forces are the main problem but if you are planing on yust compleatly wiping them out and got the turtle to do so then go for the command station then scrap if you have to. if(distance==4 planets away){
scrap all(oncurrentplanet)
}
then build on home planet as most of the remaing units will go for you. dn if units spawned after planet destroeyd from special forces post would go for you planet if so then go for them.
AI War - even the smallest units can make all the difference no matter how weak they are still quite capable of taking the hits. if it can Kill and receive damage then it worth its time other wise if it cant kill and cant take the damage for the higher surviving ships then it is worthless.

I keep my entire fleet on my side of the wormhole with tractors and turrets for company and my frigates parked just out of bomber-range. Then send in 3 or 6 Raid Starships to take out the guard posts and send batches of AI ships through the wormhole to their doom. If I want to take the system I'll kill the command post once most of the defenders have left, if not, I may kill the warp gate if its close to my core worlds.

I'll sometimes jump to the next planet in the chain and repeat, while leaving my fleet in place -the AI ships find their way to my fleet soon enough.

Cleaning up the turrets can be the boring part. I tend to kill off the lightening turrets with my starships then send the fleet through to mop up. This saves the weaker units being decimated as soon as they enter the system.
