Just so you know, defeating a 10/10 with a non-waver won't earn you a bug report unless the other AI is something like Extreme Raider or Scorched Earth.  ;)
Oh really?  ??? kk. When I played against 9/9 AIs I found defensive AIs like Shield Ninny and Turtle harder than Attritioner for example.
Sometimes when I attacked a heavily defended planet I had to retreat because I would have lost all my ships. Then the AI sent all those ships and an EMP guardian and destroyed my planet.  :'(
Maybe I was just a noob back then :P

It's pretty easy to bait those defenders to come after you in smaller pieces if you're willing to spend a little time micro'ing.  Use Raid SSs (or something equivalently fast) to 'buzz' the different towers.  That'll get them flowing towards your planets.  Park your fleet on the other side of the wormhole in AI space and just eat them piecemeal.

The reason no wave AIs are easier is because you completely control the pace of the game at that point, sans CPAs anyway.  Even on a no waver/waver, you could (prior to .036 anyway) simply double your AIP gains and still have the same defenses.  The second wave makes all the difference.

Usually: Resistance Fighters 4/10, Colony Rebellion 4/10, Dyson 4/10, Schizo waves. I play pretty vanilla, but also double waves (except for the Fallen Spire 8x HW 10/10 game, anyway).

Playing a relaxed game at 9/9 or 9.3/9.3 I'll run Golems Hard and occassionally Hybrids, depends on the AIs I'm playing.  Right now I'm testing the balance changes Keith introduced off my suggestions so I'm pretty concentrated on just doing a 10/10 for the moment.

However, NRC 10/10, Roamers 2/10?  Miners to boot along with Astro trains and Hybrids... AND the Avenger?

Holy crap.  You're playing a 10/10 with all that on?  Good luck man.

Traders I USED to use pretty heavily for boosts to the defenses.  Then I started playing wicked tight AIP and their little 5 AIP here, 10 AIP there purchases nearly wrecked me out of a game at one point.  When I did purchase from them I'd usually buy a diamond of items and build them out in this order:
Black Hole Generator (No running away and becoming threat on me)
Radar Jammer II (Saves all your mid-range batteries from Frigates + other LR ships)
Armor inhibitor (Just in case something annoying comes up.. you know, like H/Ks...)
Armor booster (this was more a nice to have than anything really useful... I would blow it up for resources occassionally).

Of all of those I'd really like BHGs to become standard stockpile for the player, or something equivalent with a lot less hp or something.  Of course, that would also come under the 'makes it easy' suggestion pile...  ;)
... and then we'll have cake.

For 10/10 research choices aren't nearly as important as your gameplan.
Keep AIP low. 100 = you are done. Or near enough.

I keep my AIP below 10 for almost half the game.

Playing vs 10/10 Crafty Spire/The Tank with the settings mentioned above^^. Atm I have 158 AIP and I'm doing fine.

And right after posting that ^^ I get a wave of 4k ships on my home planet HA AHAH A HHAAHAHAHA.....   :( :'(

EDIT: K I loaded the latest auto save and gate raided around my home planet. I knew it would be harder to defend the home planet because it's not possible to build logistical command center there. Stopped the 4k wave on another planet.

You psychopath, you fired up Cookie Monster?! ?!

Alright, short version.  From the (very) few mistakes you make in English, I assume you're not English speaking as a first language.  Cookie Monster, to us, is a childhood friend from TV that eats EVERYTHING... no matter how bad it is for him.  Thus, the devourer's nickname.

P.S... nice work.  You'll have to start posting AARs.  Between the two of us perhaps we'll get 10/10 to where it belongs.

Nope English isn't my first language. I'm Finnish. I know I sometimes make grammar mistakes^^ especially with "in" "on" and "at". I should have said "on another planet"^^ oh well.. as long as people understand what I mean it's ok :P

Thanks. The situation isn't completely out of control yet but it's getting really hard. I'm going to start a new game and try to optimize my strategy. Hmm AARs.. we'll see!

Yay.. after I got rid of those ~8k Autocannons 2 exos and another wave with ~4k ships were announced. And shortly before the exos arrived I got ANOTHER wave which hit at the same time with the exos. AI Hunter Killer Mark I destroyed my Home Command Center.

Oh wow.

While I am not as serious about is a Wanderer, I do make periodic attempts at 10/10 and I salute you for what you are doing.

The extra minor factions you have turned on are scary.

Zenith miners? AIP increase every time they destroy a system. Ouch.
Advanced Hybrids? OWOWOWOWowowowow.... (At least you did not go 4/10 on them.....)
Golem/Spirecraft Hard/Hard?  /faints

Oddly enough, the Avenger is not a big deal in that setup. If you are able to take out an AI homeworld, you are going to have the forces to murder that Avenger quite handily. (I don't think it scales with difficulty).

And beachheads? Those lost me a 7/7 game once, nevermind 10/10. (Okay, I was screwing around and not serious, but still.....)

Anyways, I wish you luck. Between the wave rebalance and the reactor changes coming I'm going to get some diff 9.x games under my belt before trying 10/10 again.

D.

Yea, if this game is won, a new "11 Psychopath" difficulty may be necessary ;)

Good grief...
