Forcefields

This is going to be fairly brief, and I would test it myself except that I went on vacation and thought of it only after leaving. Anyway...
I know that when you build turrets/leaves your ships inside your own force fields that they do 1/4th effective damage. I was wondering if you were to make a big ass bubble of force fields with an open patch of space in the middle of them housing your turrets, would they still do 100% damage since they are not technically under the force field, or does the game know what you are doing and still apply the reduction in damage? This might cost a lot of space, and probably would only be useful for the long range sniper turrets and ion cannons, but could prove an extremely effective way to protect them while delivering max damage still.

I am fairly new to the game, so I am not quite sure if even if this might work if it would cost/time effective to actually create on your front lines, or if it might even just take up to many force fields to be realistically useful.

Thanks for the replys :D? I hope...

Nope.  Making a surrounding bubble of shields does nothing as the units are not protected by the forcefields.  The shots will go right through, or rather, over or under.  It makes sense when you imagine the game in 3D.

While those units are able to fire their weapons at maximum output, they aren't protected by the shields.  The only thing that something like this would do is potentially keep some enemy ships outside of their firing ranges.

Putting a bunch of forcefields around a wormhole that the AI is about to send a wave through can be pretty hilarious. Just leave a gap inbetween all of the forcefields where the wormhole is. (Although not terribly effective, since you still have to kill all the ships in the wave... still funny though when they warp in and cramp up in that tiny space)

Use lightning turrets and other splash damage :p
