Lots of friendly ships appear and energy nose dives!

Just starting playing and really enjoying this game but......
I was wondering why, when I destroy an AI vessel I gain a load of new ships that seem to spawn from the destroyed enemy ship and then obviously my Energy level drops into massive minus numbers! Have I missed an important mechanic?

Sounds a lot like you've cracked open something called a Zenith Reserve.  It's a building that spawns 400k-1mil power worth of Zenith ships at the cost of some AI progress.  Didn't realise you could accidentally open it though...

It seemed that every enemy on that particular planet produced the extra ships, so didn't seem to be a 'rare bonus', not sure what was going on.

is it one of those meelee guys? they multiply using your ships

I bet he is using parasites, and is capturing enemy ships. It is definitly important to read the descriptions of what you are using, and notnjust throw whatever into the mix...

Please let us know if you have parasite ships. If not post a save with a particular planet to check.
