Killing Superfortresses?

Alright so i am around 4.5 hours into my game.

I have kind of hit a road block. The only path out of my system, is via a level 3 planet. With a superfortress guarding it. I threw a maxed out fleet at it, and it just shredded the majority of my fleet almost instantly. I pretty much want this system, since it would make a nice defensive entrance into my little system.

What exactly can i do :(?

well if there arent "too" many units ships, just kill the command station and they will all attack you. you can clean out the system of ships, but you better be prepared to handle them all spilling onto your turf.

to handle the superfort, just use bombers and only bombers on it.

not sure how to clean out turret balls easily besides taking out supply to the planet, which may or may not be viable depending on your situation.

how many enemy planets are bordering this planet?

I had one of these two jumps from my homeworld at a bottleneck, the tactic I used: EMP the world, then warp in my ship-cap-worth of T1, 2, and 3 bombers and move them into a position where they wont get shot at by any of the defences.  The superfortress takes about 6 volleys to kill just one tech II bomber, and it has to be fairly close to hit through the bombers shield, so you have plenty of time.  When the fortress can be shot without bombers taking fire from anything else, order them to attack.  If the planet has much scary stuff on it, EMP it and take out the command station, then run back until you have a clearer system.

I ended up just using like 4 transports, and rushing the fortress. Then dumping out bombers/fighters/z chameleon ontop of it. It seemed to have alot of problems killing units that are close to it. However this took a very very... long time. Ugh. But i am not really sure what exactly to do when, the enemy planets are level 4's with ion turrets + and these guys.

This planet links to another planet that is pretty much the hub of the map, this other planet connects to like 6 other chains of nodes. Its also the only way into my 30 or so planet chain.

Can someone also please explain to me what use is z chameleon's? As bombers they seem pretty terrible, and i cant really think of any time when their cloak is useful.

If you put them in low power mode, they probably will remain cloaked, which has its uses.  And they are real good when they attack my forcefields.

Chameleons can be snuck into a system, put in low power mode, and left there to keep visual intel (i think, they might be blind) and provide backup forces. It's always possible the weapons need tweaking to play a solid role as well, though...

If we weren't going for your money, you wouldn't have gotten as much value for it!

Chameleons are one of those units that is more for the AI than the player imo

bomber spam, especially with shield + munitions boosters all the way vs forts

Yeah thats kinda what i've thought.  So i've ran into another kinda problem.

Basically the AI has an insanely well defended level 3, planet, that has been a huge thorn in my side. Containing ~4k units, along with a superfortress and an godily defense setup including alot of nasty mines. However, there is also a dyson sphere in this system. However the superfortress is pretty much smack up against, the dyson sphere (it makes a humping motion, everytime gatling gun dies it moves a bit away, then a new one spawns and it runs smack against the dyson sphere). It also pretty much 3 shot's the gatling guns. The gatling guns don't even attempt to attack the fortress, this has pretty much caused the units to be everywhere, the entrance is pretty much right next to the superfortress/dyson sphere love ground.

I tried transports, I pretty much am determined to take this tho. Any suggestions?

I would try to empty the system of ships first

try to unlock all mine types, especially AoE mines
try to unlock lightning turrets
build all 2000 mines around the wormhole leading to the system, along with as many turrets (esp lightning) as humanly possible and your entire fleet, maybe a fortress of your own, and lightning shuttles if you have them, all around the entrance

snipe the enemy con center with 2 transports of bombers, endure the 4k ships. If you win, planet is yours ^_^

That doesn't even work, it seems they get aggro from the golem

If you got the economy then you could send in 1 unit strong or not an target for other guard post then what you do is send the super fortress on a goose chase. Then build huge defenses what I used was 170 sniper turrets and it was enough for killing the normal fortress. You might need forward defense to stop it killing the snipers . Or you could get it relay close to one of the friendly worm holes and on the other side you got bombers + bait ships. Ships that the super fortress is strong against. This should keep the super fortress near the wormhole but not leave because of the weak targets coming out of the worm hole.
AI War - even the smallest units can make all the difference no matter how weak they are still quite capable of taking the hits. if it can Kill and receive damage then it worth its time other wise if it cant kill and cant take the damage for the higher surviving ships then it is worthless.

The best unit for killing fortresses, as far as I could tell is the Zenith Polarizer. The forts and sforts have quite high shielding and a full stack of I-III Polarizers just completely melt them usually in under 100 seconds. Of course you need to get lucky and have Polarizers in the first place.

Full stack (9) of Raid Starships no good? They would ignore the shields. I'm sure the last time I took out a fortress with them it didn't even try to fire back at them for some reason (it woke up as soon as I put anything else into the system though).

Fortresses fire missiles and raid starships are immune to missiles.
I am not sure what the super fortress uses tho, but probably missiles too.

What you could do is if there are no turrets or enemy ships around the opening of the wormhole, just go in with a mobile builder and enough engineers to instantly build a counter missile.
Not sure where to go from there.

it has flame wave. so C-missile wont work but force field might
