Impossible to win?
« on: April 23, 2010, 03:50:26 pm »
Kryzite and myself have been trying to beat an AI that unlocked grenade launchers. Now their homeworld has 450+ core grenade launchers and is wiping 3000+ ships in seconds. The homeworld is under a core FF and another high tier forcefiled (2 or 3, not sure off the top of my head). We've tried transport dropping, direct assault (very ugly... lost 3000 ships in 6 seconds to the grenade launchers), etc. We can't break the previous world either for the same reasons, so missiles dont exactly work either. Suggestions?

I would suggest something really long-ranged, like sniper turrets or dreadnoughts or something.  I forget the exact range on the core grenade launchers, but you're probably going to need to out-range them.

Also, you may want to look into if they are immune to EMP missles or not -- they may not be.

Yeah, the problem is they're sitting on the warp gates to the core world and its adjacent tier IV with a few hundred of them, and we don't have any long range bombards (though the AI does). That, and there are core warhead interceptors, so short of grinding down the AI with a few waves of 3000+ ships kiting one guard post at a time, we don't have many options... though I suppose we could always build a few thousand mercenary bombers and try a super-transport drop.

Or if you're really lucky with a lightning missle upon sending it right in, I guess.  But yeah, it sounds like those guys are dug way the heck in to an unusual degree.

Yeah, hopefully kryzite will be able to post a copy of the save-game or some screenshots later this afternoon. We're stuck in a bit of a stalemate. The AI can't kill even a single turret in its raids (1000-1500 ships is normal at this point for each raid) and we can't really inflict enough damage without massive, repetitive attacks to grind it down.

Well, the enemy of most AoE ships is Starships (one ship  with tons of health makes aoe useless). I presume the Orbital Mass driver is still in there though, so i recommend this:
Build a dozen transports and shove in as many bombers and autocannons and anything else you can grab for taking down armored targets. Then, dump them all into the transports and ninja raid that command station. If you're lucky, that will also draw away their wormhole guards. Then, send in your cap of spire and/or Zenith ando/or Flagships, and ahve them shred as much as they can. Then you ought to be able to use your fleet.

Send force feilds first, MkIII if you can swing it this will let your ships spread out some before geting smacked by the grenades, and the damage loss is nothing compared to the survivability increase in this case.  Also engineers, and a mobile builder, Then you can plop down some fortresses, use the fortresses insaine range to knock out guard posts, it can do so almost instantly with 21x9000 damage every 3 seconds.

ah you got in before me  ;D

FF sounds the way to go, if you have spare knowlege knock out some riot starships with shield addons too.

Hmm, knocking out the mass driver might be possible, since i dont think it's under a huge high level shield. We don't have much spare knowledge at the moment, since we unlocked a bunch of turrets and ships, but we've got up through zenith unlocked in the spire line. The forcefield/fortress drop could work, so maybe we'll try that tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestions!

Not sure what you mean by an update. There have already been proposed a number of ways this "nut" could be cracked.  Did you mean you wanted an update as to wHich solution(s) worked?

Yes! I wanted to know if a solution was found.
